Sooners Rock Arkansas-Pine Bluff With 26 Runs On 19 Hits

I said in the preview post that this series against Arkansas-Pine Bluff was nothing more than a glorified batting practice and as it turns out, that's what game one was. APB took a two run lead in the first off a two-run home run by catcher Barry McDonley over the left field fence. They carried that lead into the second inning but then things got ugly.

Cameron Seitzer, the Sooners first batter in the bottom of the second, tripled. Then Casey Johnson and Drew Harrison reached base after being hit by back-tp-back pitches. That brought up Tyler Ogle who got the Sooners on the board with a grand slam.

Leading 4-2, Danny Black singled and then Chris Ellison reached safely on a bunt. What happened next was the craziest play of the night. We'll just call it the Bushyhead factor. Caleb Bushyhead laid down a bunt that pitcher Gregory Daiville promptly threw to the right field fence allowing the bases to clear by scoring all three runners. The official scorekeeper records it as a single for Bushyhead and the advancing on a throwing error. We, however, are going to refer to it as the home run bunt. Oklahoma ended the inning with a 10-2 lead but the Sooners were far from being done.

OU added another run in the third, five more in the fifth, four in the sixth and six in the seventh for a 26-3 run rule win. Michael Rocha recorded his fourth victory of the season after coming in to replace starter Anthony Collazo to start the second. Rocha pitched three innings and allowed one run on one hit. Behind the plate, Cameron Seitzer went 4-for-5 with a home run and 2 RBI's. He crosses home plate five times.

First pitch in game two in this mid-week series is set for 7:00 p.m. Wednesday evening.
