Oklahoma fell behind Baylor 3-0 early but used a huge 2nd inning to take the lead and then hung on as the Bears attempted to rally. Baylor struck for 2 runs in the top of the first and then one more in the top of the second to build their lead but Oklahoma's bats got going in their half of the second.
Danny Black drove in two runs in the bottom of the second with a two out single to cut Baylor's lead to 3-2. Then Chris Ellison followed with a two-run homer, bringing in Black, to put OU up 4-3. Caleb Bushyhead gave the Sooners back-to-back homeruns, for the first time this season, in his next at bat. His solo shot extended Oklahoma's lead to 5-3 and the Sooners would never trail again on their way to a 7-6 win.
The win snapped a seven game losing streak in conference openers for Oklahoma.
Game two of the doubleheader was suspended in the 3rd inning with Baylor up 5-0. Oklahoma had a runner on first base and no outs. The game will be resumed Sunday, weather permitting.
