While the Sooners have been surprisingly bad in basketball this season the Kansas State Wildcats have been surprisingly good. The 7th ranked Wildcats come to Norman with a 21-4 record (8-3 in conference) and a firm grip on the Big 12's second place spot. They are 5-1 in road games this year and have won their last four games away from Manhattan.
It isn't impossible for the Sooners to come away from this game with a win but it is unlikely the way they've been playing. I guess they could actually have learned to play team defense since Wednesday night but again the word, "unlikely" pops up. Oklahoma's best chance for a win is for the Wildcats to have a poor night offensively.
Kansas State has three players with a scoring average in double figures led by junior guard Jacob Pullen. His 18.5 points per game scoring average ranks 3rd in the conference and his 71 made three-point shots rank 2nd in the Big 12. He's also good for 3.8 assists per game along with 1.6 steals. Senior guard Denis Clemente averages 15.6 points and dishes out a team-high 4.0 assists per contest. His .596 shooting percentage is the best on the team. Junior forward Curtis Kelly averages 11.4 points and has team highs in rebounds (6.3) as well as blocked shots(2) per game. Sophomore forward Jamar Samuels scores 11.7 points and grabs 5.1 rebounds per game while coming off the bench.
Words don't express how frustrating it is to watch this Sooner basketball team. I shutter to imagine how frustrated Jeff Capel must feel when I measure my own frustration felt from just being a fan. Oklahoma plays better at home but unless they're able to change the bad habits that have led to this monstrosity of a season, and OU's current three game losing streak, this game is going to get real ugly real fast.
