Cade Davis and Steven Pledger did something on Thursday night that Sooner fans hoped to see last season from highly touted guards Willie Warren and Tommy Mason-Griffin. Stepping in for the defected McDonald's All-American guard duo, Davis and Pledger combined for 44 points on 15 of 28 shooting from three-point range to lead Oklahoma's men's basketball team to their third win of the season.
Pledger led all scorers with 23 points and Davis added 21 which basically eliminated Oklahoma's need for scoring from the post. Instead Andrew Fitzgerald, Nick Thompson and C.J. Washington combined to grab 19 of OU's 34 rebounds while only taking a combined four shots.
The Sooners led 36-29 at the half thanks to a 13-0 run that allowed them to separate themselves from Texas Southern and not look back. They would then double-up the Tigers in the second half by out scoring them 46-23 and finally gaining that comfortable/confidence building non-conference victory before heading to Hawaii to face Kentucky on Monday.
