2009 OU Baseball Preview: Outfield

New, 2 comments

Oklahoma introduces a new outfielder in 2009 and returns a set of brothers who could wind up being the held in the same esteem as the Minors and Bookouts when their playing time ends. Obviously defense is a premium in the outfield but Oklahoma’s crew can swing the bat as well.

Right Field

Kaleb Herren – Herren is a JUCO transfer who is expected to pay immediate dividends as a Sooner. He batted .418 in 2008 at North Central Texas College producing 15 homeruns 56 RBIs. Herren will also spend some time on the mound as a relief pitcher.

Jamie Johnson – Jamie is possibly Oklahoma’s best baseball player. He’s a legitimate five-tool player who led the team in stolen bases with 20. Jamie hit .344 last season and was OU’s leadoff batter in 34 games.

Left Field

Casey Johnson – As a freshman Casey started 40 games last year including Oklahoma’s season opener. He batted .346 for the season and .293 in conference play.

Other players who are looking to make their mark in the outfield in `09 are Elliott Blair, Chad Colbert and Chris Ellison.
