Oklahoma's football team isn't the only Sooner squad in competition on New Year's Eve. The Sooners tip off against Gonzaga tonight at 9:00 in Spokane. The Bulldogs are 9-3 on the season and have losses to Michigan State, Wake Forest and Duke. The USA Today poll has the Zags at #22 and the AP would have them at #26 if it extended.
Gonzaga has four players who score in double figures led by guard Matt Bouldin's 15.1 points per game. Forward Elias Harris averages 13.3 points per game, guard Steven Gray 12.9 and center Robert Sacre provides 11.8 points per game.
The Bulldogs are deadly from behind the three point line. They have six guys shooting better than 35% from beyond the arch. Oklahoma will definitely need to mind the three-point line because Gonzaga will be looking to capitalize there. They're not particularly great from the charity stripe with only four guys shooting better than 70%.
OU has been ugly on the road and visiting a fringe Top 25 team on New Year's Eve is going to be a huge challenge. The Sooners will most likely be at a disadvantage down low and the key to success will be all on the guards.
