Previewing The Iowa State Cyclones

Oklahoma hasn’t won a men’s basketball game in Ames, Iowa since 2003. While the Sooners are currently fielding one of the top team’s in the country it doesn’t always translate into a sure road victory, especially in the Big 12. Iowa State has a 12-8 record and is only 1-4 in conference play. That record isn’t alarming by any stretch of the imagination but it also doesn’t mean that the Cyclones don’t have any ballers either.

Craig Brackins is the only player on the Cyclones roster who scores in double figures. He puts up 19.6 points per game to go along with 9 rebounds and 1 blocked shot per game. Brackins ranks second in the conference in points scored per game and is tops on the team at making his way to the free throw line. He was named the Big 12 Player of the Week this past week.

Diante Garrett is almost at double figures per game in scoring with 9.7 points. He leads the team in assists with 5.1 and grabs 4 rebounds per game. Lucca Staiger completes the trifecta of Cyclone impact players. He averages 8.8 points per game and is shooting 41% from three-point range. He has 50 makes on the season.

With the losses suffered by Duke and Pittsburgh this week Connecticut is sure to take over the top spot in the nation but a win in Ames on Saturday could propel the Sooners to #2. As stated at the beginning winning on the road in the Big 12 isn’t easy but if you are truly a Top 5 team then this is a game that has to be won.
