Sooner Legend Jack Mildren Passes Away

The “Godfather of the Wishbone” has passed away after a two year battle with cancer. As a quarterback at OU from 1969-1971 Jack Mildren was instrumental in bringing the wishbone into fruition at Oklahoma during the 1970 season. With Mildren under center Oklahoma improved from a 6-4 record in `69 to 11-1 with a win over Auburn in the Sugar Bowl.

In 1971 the Sooners averaged 472.4 rushing yards per game and Mildren earned All-American honors by setting career records for touchdown passes (25), and season passing efficiency (209.0). Mildren also set the single season rushing record at OU with 1,140 yards.

His records have since been surpassed but the influence of #11 will forever remain in Sooner football history.
