Despite losing 7-3 on Sunday afternoon the Oklahoma Sooners took two of three games from the 20th ranked Baylor Bears over the weekend to bring up their conference record to 2-3-1 and their overall record to 20-8-1. After going 0-2-1 last weekend at #22 Nebraska the Sooners put themselves in a must win situation to both keep place in the conference and to build the confidence of a youthful team.
After sneaking by Texas Arlington, 6-5, on Tuesday Oklahoma took the first game of the Baylor series Friday night, 11-2, off of a solid 7 2/3 inning pitching performance by sophomore Jeremy Erben and 6 run second inning where the Sooners batted around the lineup.
Saturday it was a one-out single in the tenth inning by J.T. Wise that scored the winning run in OU's 3-2 victory over the Bears and clinched the series victory. However, before Wise did his thing the Sooners needed a Jamie Johnson homerun in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings. In both wins OU got solid pitching from their starters and relievers along with timely hits.
OU stays at home this week to play Dallas Baptist on Tuesday before taking on the Texas Longhorns over the weekend. Oklahoma played Dallas Baptist earlier this season edging out a 3-1 win on March 11 and the Longhorns are currently 5-4 in conference play and 18-8 overall.
