Round Table Round Up - The Face of the Team

The second round table went swimmingly with a total of 11 blogs checking in, three from the south this time. The theme of the round table was "The Face of the Team" which obviously focused specifically on the team that each writer blogs for. I wanted to say thanks to everyone who participated and for the great responses. Here we go!

Pick one current player to be the "Face of the Franchise" for your team. You can only select one player so tell us why you selected the person that you did.

While there were some great responses and even some surprises I thought this to be the best case made for a player.

There isn't any other player in the conference, or the nation for that matter, that has the heart and grit that this guy exhibits every Saturday.

Aggies have been infatuated with the Bucky Richards-incarnate play of McGee since November 2005 when he lead a spirited charge against the future MNC Texas Longhorns. In the process taking lick after lick, and shots to the helmet, picking himself up every time and personally telling every defender he wanted some more.

The fate of the program, and Fran's career, is more or less tethered to the play of Stephen McGee. - The 12 Manchild

Tell us what makes your team's stadium great, traditions, facilities, etc...

Everyone thinks that their stadium is great in some capacity. Or do they?

Ummmm. Our stadium is far from anything special, although I have only been there a handful of times, and none of our facilities (at least football facilities) are anything to write home about. The "Rock Chalk Jayhawk" chant is always a good one, but again that is more associated with the basketball team. I guess the answer would be nothing, but if you ask me about Allen Fieldhouse... - Rock Chalk Talk

Hypothetical - Your team has to vacate their current stadium and play a game in another Big 12 stadium which one would you pick for them to play in and why?

The leaders in this category were Kyle Field in College Station and DKR Stadium in Austin Texas but there was one vote for Gaylord Family Memorial Stadium in Norman as well as a few for Memorial Stadium in Lincoln and an invasion plan for Boulder Colorado.

The obvious would be DKR in Austin, but, geez, that's too obvious. So, I'll just say that we'd invade Colorado and take over their stadium. When I say invade Colorado, I really mean invade Colorado. Push the natives down, take over their land kind of thing. Maybe get a gob of guys with big squirt guns that shoot holy water, and after a couple hundred of the heathens melted, the rest would get the idea and allow us to transport them to Southern California where they'd be happy, safe from us, and live out the rest of their lives joining causes.

Not all of Colorado, mind you. We'd leave Colorado State and the Air Force Academy alone. But Boulder, yes. Invade that, take their stadium. Hell, the rest of Colorado would probably help us in the effort. - Corn Nation

Unthinkable - Take your team's biggest rival's head coach and make a case as to why he would be a good fit on your sideline.

This wasn't as tuff a pill to swallow as I thought it would be. What I found out was that in spite of heated rivals there are respectable things to be said for the coaches in the conference. That is of course for the teams who actually know who their rival is.

Which raises the question: who is Nebraska's biggest rival? Colorado? Well, ABC would like it to be so. Texas? Not a lot of history. Kansas State? In recent years, perhaps. But when you think Nebraska football, there can only be one team that screams "rivalry": the Oklahoma Sooners. And that makes this question almost too easy, as Bob Stoops is easily the best coach in the Big XII conference. Some people think he's too arrogant, but I'm not sure I see it. What I do see is a guy who's won more conference titles than anybody else. - Husker Mike's Blasphemy

Prediction Time
Tell us who is going to win:

This was fun! I'd like to than the Iowa State Cylones for giving the Big 12 the first black eye of the season. Looks like it is going to be a long season in Ames.
