Three Sooners on Placed on Watch Lists

A handful of Sooners have been named to watch lists for various national awards. All of the pre-season talk is surely to be on the quarterback race but there is a ton of talent on this team in several positions and people around the country are taking notice.

Reggie Smith is one of 50 players placed on the preseason Nagurski Watch List.  The Nagurski Trophy is awarded anually to the best defensive player in college football.

Smith played the first three games last season at corner before moving to safety for the remainder of the 06 season. He registered 40 total tackles and three interceptions, including a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown at Baylor.

Allen Patrick and Malcolm Kelly are among the 65 players on the watch list for the Maxwell Award given to the college football player of the year.

Patrick stepped in to carry the load for the Sooners when Adrian Peterson went down with a broken collarbone. He rushed for 761 yards and four touchdowns including a 173 yard performance at Texas A&M.

Kelly led the team in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. He caught 62 passes for 993 yards and ten touchdowns including a huge night in Kansas City where he caught 10 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns (setting a the conference championship game record for receptions and yards) against Nebraska as the Sooners won their 4th Big 12 Championship.
