Here are a couple of thoughts I want to share with you on some articles that I read on Fox Sports.com regarding Oklahoma's upcoming football season.
First of all, I couldn't agree more with this article about the Sooners running backs. I don't believe there will be the significant drop off with the departure of Adrian Peterson that many expect. Keep in mind that it was Allen Patrick who carried the load on that stretch run to the Big 12 Championship.
Chris Brown will still be in the mix as well as redshirt freshmen Mossis Madu and DeMarco Murray. There will be a lot of options out of the backfield to get the ball to and add to that the fact that Madu and Murray are also lining up in the slot position as well.
Here's a pretty good run down of some key returnees and newcomers to the roster who are making some noise this spring and are expected to do so again this fall. I'm just wondering why Gerald McCoy isn't on that list?
Finally, this article suggest that the Oklahoma coaching staff may not be thought of as highly as they once were because the coaching staff returns intact for the 2007 season. I can see their point. They moved a wide receiver to the starting quarterback position just weeks before the season started and survived half of the season without their All-American running back and still won their fourth Big 12 Championship in seven seasons. Oh wait! Yeah, there is the criticism that they did lose their BCS game.
Forget the fact that there are three other schools who had a legitimate shot at being in the Fiesta Bowl. One of them, south of Norman, supposedly has far "superior" talent than the Sooners and yet some how this coaching staff gets to look at the Big 12 Championship trophy each day they walk into their offices. I can live with that.
