The season could and most likely is slipping away for the Sooners who have fallen back into the early season funk that left them just a few plays away from winning basketball games. I still think that OU would be in the NIT as of right now but that could quickly change is the Sooners' current two game losing streak continues to grow. Stealing a game tonight on the road would definitely be a good notch in Oklahoma's post-season resume.
The Sooners player a great first half against Texas A&M but only shot 23 percent during the second half while allowing the Aggies to shoot 52 percent. The biggest spark for OU on Saturday was David Godbold's career high 20 points. Godbold went 5 of 7 from three point range.
Scouting the Tigers
Stefhon Hannah is averaging 15.6 points and 4.6 assists per game. He ranks second in the Big 12 with his 2.6 steals per game. Matt Lawrence averages 11.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game and shoots a team-high .446 from 3-point range. Marshall Brown averages 10.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game and Keon Lawrence is averaging 9.3 points and 1.8 assists per contest. Kalen Grimes contributes 7.4 points and a team-high 6.0 boards a game.
Outlook and Prediction
Facing the reality that they will not be in the NCAA tournament it would be real easy for the Sooners just to quit at this point in the season. I hope that is not what we are seeing but after A&M took the lead in the second half Saturday there were a lot of heads hanging. For the Sooners to win tonight they will have to get off to a good start. This is not a team that can come from behind especially on the road.
The press defense that the Tigers are going to use could cause fits for the Sooner guards. OU already struggles with turnovers and tonight's numbers could potentially be astronomical. In not saying that the Sooners don't stand a chance but they are going to have to do more than just protect the ball. They will need to find someone to score some points. Nate Carter and Longar Longar are both drawing double teams inside and no one, except Godbold, has been able to hit a jump shot the last two games. If those trends continue it will be a long night in Columbia.
Tigers win 67-58.
