Tony Crocker helped the Sooners soar past Gonzaga.
They say that the third time is a charm and it certainly was for Oklahoma's men's basketball team. After playing hard and staying close in ga
mes against top 25 opponents this season the Sooners had fallen short against Memphis and USC.
OU was determined to take advantage of every opportunity and not let the 18th ranked Gonzaga Bulldogs become the third ranked team to beat them. The Sooners won the rebound battle 35-25, blocked 3 shots and made 7 three point shots to grab their most significant win of the season in putting away Gonzaga 72-68.
OU seems to be gelling getting solid guard play which also opens up things inside for Longar Longar and Blake Griffin. Tony Crocker turned in an almost perfect performance with 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals and 15 points. Austin Johnson made the play of the game by blocking Jeremy Pargo's 3 point shot at the 10 second mark. Johnson also scored 9 points on the night.
Blake Griffin and Longar Longar were the difference makers inside scoring 15 and 16 points respectively. Griffin also grabbed 14 rebounds giving him a double-double on the night and the Sooners back-to-back wins over quality opponents. You can now say that this team has arrived on the college basketball scene and are making noise. The last two games should have been enough to restore the player's confidence after losing to Stephen F. Austin. Now the question is can they take this level of play on the road? OU plays next Saturday at West Virginia.
