OU/Oklahoma Christian Basketball Preview

New, 1 comment

The Sooners start their 100th basketball season tonight as they host the Oklahoma Christian Eagles in an exhibition game.

New Sooners Head Coach Jeff Capel is ready to get the season started and see what his team can do up against real competition.

"We're very excited.  We're looking forward to playing against someone besides ourselves and see where we are.  We're playing against a very good opponent in Oklahoma Christian.  They've had a lot of success over time under head coach Dan Hays, one of the best basketball minds out there.  Their team can shoot the ball and they run a lot of ball screens and a lot of dribble hand-offs.  They're known for their offensive prowess, so it will be a good test for our defense.  And then hopefully we can execute offensively and have some positive things happen for us on that end of the court.

"I'm just anxious to get out there and watch my team and see some different combinations on the floor.  I want to see how our guys perform when the lights are on."

Scouting the Eagles
Oklahoma Christian plays in the Sooner Athletic Conference. The Eagles are an NAIA School and are coming off a 22-11 season where they advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NAIA National Tournament. They are lead by forward Keith Harris (22) who averaged 15.2 points and 7.7 rebounds last season. Two other playmakers to keep an eye on are guard Charles Baldwin (25) and forward Micah Miles (45). Baldwin averaged 13.1 points and 3.7 rebounds last season and also led the team in 3-pointers with 51. Miles averaged 7.1 points and 6.5 rebounds last season.
