Recapping Some Weekend Results

I'm sure everyone knows the result of the basketball game but here are some other Sooner accomplishments: Men's Gymnastics: Ranked #2 nationally, they took down #1 Stanford and #7 Minnesota in Minneapolis. HUGE victory for them. This marks the 5th and 6th time that OU has defeated a top 10 opponent on the year. Baseball: OU has won the first two games of the home series against UCLA, both by rallying from behind. They are now 11-3 on the season.

Sooners Split Series With #11 San Diego

After winning Tuesday’s game 11-2 Oklahoma dropped their first game of the year,10-7, Wednesday night against the San Diego Toreros. The Sooners exploded in the top of the 2nd for 5 runs but then gave up 2 in the bottom of the inning. The 4th inning was the back breaker for OU though as the Toreros put 6 runs on the board followed by two more in the 5th. Best Pitching Performance J.R. Robinson pitched six innings allowing only two runs off seven hits while striking out three batters. Best Overall Performance Jamie Johnson’s grand slam in the top of the 5th inning put OU up for good in game one on Tuesday. For the night he had three hits on six at bats with 4 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Up next for the Sooners is a four game series at Washington State this weekend.

Sooners Trail Early, Rip San Diego 11-2

Finding themselves down 2-0 going into the 5th inning Oklahoma rallied to put up 7 runs in the inning mostly due to a grand slam by Jamie Johnson. They would the add 2 in the 6th and 2 more in the 9th for an 11-2 win over San Diego. J.R. Robinson picked up the win for Oklahoma and the Sooners improved to 5-0. OU plays the Toreros again tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. CST.

Sooner Baseball 4-0 For First Time Since `98

Oklahoma drilled Western Illinois for 59 runs in four games over the weekend. It was an impressive start to the season both offensively and defensively to say the least. The Sooners’ scoring percentage was insane as Oklahoma scored their 59 runs on 60 hits serving notice that this squad certainly knows how to swing a bat. Oklahoma’s lowest scoring output came in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader. In that contest OU only scored 6 runs but solid pitching and defense held the Leathernecks to just 1 run. Best Pitching Performance Antwonie Hubbard pitched 6 innings in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, only allowing one run on two hits while striking out three batters. Best Overall Performance Outfielder Jamie Johnson scored 13 runs in his 14 at bats.

Baseball Going For Sweep

Oklahoma won the second game of their Saturday doubleheader 15-4 run rule decision over the Western Illinois Leathernecks and now are in position for a series sweep. Matt Harughty hit a grand slam and knocked in a total of 5 RBIs for the game. First pitch for Sunday’s game four is set for 1:00.

Sooner Baseball Improves to 2-0

Atwonie Hubbard allowed 2 hits and 1 run in picking up his first win of the season to improve the Sooners to 2-0. Oklahoma won the season opener over Western Illinois last night 17-2 and then posted a 6-1 win today in the first game of their doubleheader against the Leathernecks.
