Oklahoma finished 1-2 in pool play thanks to today’s 5-4 loss to the Missouri Tigers. Probably the most frustrating thing is that in both last night’s loss as well as today’s the Sooners had the bases loaded with one out and hit into a double play. Oh well, now we’ll have to sit and wait on seeding for the NCAA Tournament.
I was wrong and I’m not too proud to admit it. I incorrectly pronounced the Texas Longhorns dead after the early game this morning which most certainly isn’t the case. The Longhorns just defeated Kansas State 4-2 in Saturday’s second game forcing a three-way tie between Baylor, Kansas State and Baylor. According to the Big 12 tiebreaker rule, when three teams are tied and they’ve all defeated each other the way these three teams have then the highest seeded team advances to the tournament championship. Texas was the top seed in the tournament so they will advance to tomorrow’s championship game. Something tells me that we won’t hear any complaining out of Austin about the outcome of this scenario.
Baylor won the early game today 8-4 over the Kansas Jayhawks. Two losses for Kansas (Texas/Baylor) will eliminate the Jayhawks from tomorrow’s championship game. The best that Texas can do now is to tie Baylor in pool play with a win over K-State this afternoon. In that case the Bears would advance to the championship because of their 14-9 win over the Longhorns on Wednesday night.
OU played like a team that thought could coast to a win and the Aggies played like a team that was absolutely hungry to win. That was the difference, plain and simple.
Oklahoma is now set to punch their ticket to the championship game with a win over A&M tonight.
Fun game but the frustrating thing is that OU had the bases loaded twice and came away empty both times. Still, a win is a win!
Baylor scored 8 runs in the 6th inning on their way to hammering Texas 14-9.
K-State wins the tournament opener 5-4 over Kansas. First pitch in the Texas/Baylor game is set for 12:45.
