Sooner Baseball Goes 2-1 in Houston

After dropping their opening game 7-2 to the #9 Rice Owls the OU baseball team bounced back with wins over Houston (8-5) and Tennessee (2-0) in the Houston College Classic. The two wins improved Oklahoma's record to 5-2 with a three game series against North Dakota State coming up in Norman beginning on Tuesday.

Saturday's victory over the Cougars was a slug fest with the Sooners out hitting Houston 11-8. Oklahoma scored in the top of the 9th on a J.T. Wise sacrifice fly to center field. Then in the 10th came Oklahoma's biggest hit of the day off the bat of sophomore Spencer Selby who knocked a three-run home run over the left-field fence to give the Sooners their 8-5 victory.

Sunday 2-0 win over Tennessee was a pitcher's duel with Sooner true freshman Michael Rocha blanking the Volunteers in eight innings of work by striking out seven batters and only giving up two hits. Rocha would retire the fist 12 batters he faced.

Other than getting out played by Rice (who also beat the Texas Longhorns) on Friday the Sooners had a very solid showing in Houston. This is a young team who is playing very well at the start of the season and unless they "hit the wall" they'll only get stronger.
