Big 12 Roundtable - Getting Personal

This week's round table is being hosted by the outstanding Nebraska Cornhuskers site, Corn Nation. It would be well worth your time to head over there and check out the responses from some of the best Big12 blogs around.

Yes, that's right the North is taking over the round table and why shouldn't they, they out number the South in responses 10-1.

1. What did you learn, if anything, about your team on opening weekend? More specifically, did you see anything that brought complete elation or utter disappointment?

The most obvious thing we learned about the Sooners was that our offense is explosive. Not only was Sam Bradford's performance spectacular but the offense scored three touchdowns in drives that took less than a minute and four others that were under two minutes. Oklahoma's team speed on offense is ridiculous.

2.  20 years from now, someone will ask you "Where Were You When Appalachian State beat Michigan?". Describe what you were doing at the time, your reaction.

I was actually working at the new home my wife and I purchased and had no access to television or radio. However, I was following it on my cell phone.

3. Given the big event of this past weekend, what's the worst you've ever felt about your team?

I've been to some big time disappointing games for the Sooners. I was at the Sugar Bowl when OU lost to LSU and I was at the Orange Bowl when they were destroyed by USC. I've seen them lose to Texas and Oklahoma State but the worst I have ever felt after a game was when I walked out of the stadium after Oklahoma lost to TCU in the 2005 season opener.  It was an early kickoff and I didn't watch any more football for the rest of the weekend.

4. Take a classic - like Homer's Odyssey, Lord of the Flies, Little Women, or, heck, even the latest Simpsons Movie and tell me how it relates to your team this season.

I'm going to pick the classic movie Sponge Bob Square pants. In the movie King Neptune loses his crown and some unlikely heroes (Sponge Bob & Patrick) go on a quest to Shell City to retrieve it.

In real life King Stoops needs another trophy for his case and Oklahoma's unlikely heroes (Sam Bradford & DeMarco Murray) are on a quest that will lead them to San Antonio to retrieve it. However, unlike the movie they won't need David Hasslehoff's assistance because they have a supporting cast of Allen Patrick, Malcolm Kelly, Reggie Smith and Nic Harris going along with them.

Okay, that was cheesy and dumb but it was all I could muster up. After all aren't we all a bunch of goofy goobers?

5. It wasn't just by accident you got here. Somewhere, some time, there was someone who influenced you to become a fan of your team. Tell that story.

Growing up in Oklahoma you pretty much have to choose between the Sooners or the Cowboys. I grew up in a home where mom liked OSU and dad liked OU so the choice was up to me.

Of course in the early to mid 80's the Sooner Machine was rolling so we watched Oklahoma almost every Saturday. I went to my first I went to my first game in 1985 and have been hooked since.

Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week: Marlon Lucky, Nebraska - 233 rushing yards on 30 attempts with 3 touchdowns.

Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week: Jordan Dizon, Colorado - 20 tackles (15 solo), 1 forced fumble and 1 pass break up.
