While the 2012 Big XII football schedule has yet to be released sources have indicated that the annual Red River Rivalry will remain during the first weekend of October. The annual grudge match typically occurs on the fist or second weekend of October and has been slated for Saturday October 6th this year..

Oklahoma At UTEP For a Football Season Opener?!?

Photo

Say it ain't so Joe (C.)! Is this really where we're at in our efforts to finalize the 2012 schedule? I mean really? We're so desperate we're willing to not just take a game with UTEP, which in and of itself isn't the worst game ever but certainly not a thrilling match up. But now we're willing to take a game at UTEP?! We're so desperate to fill our schedule that we can't convince a team to come to Norman for a beat down and a likely million dollar payday, instead we're willing to go to their place instead where they still likely get said beat down less said million dollar payday?

I'm not sure who to be more confused by in this situation. Joe C. for even considering this or UTEP for what we have to assume is a hard stance in refusing to come to Norman. Which is an obvious assumption on our part, but I can't fathom Joe C. willingly take a road game like this.

If the Big 12/OU schedule ever does get released, we'll obviously find out at some point if this is even accurate. I don't think any of us are all that optimistic about the quality of the two non-con games our Sooners are trying to fill, but I believe the thought was at least they'd be home games. If this report proves to be true, even that won't be the case.

West Virginia & Big East Reach Settlement - Mountaineers Coming To BIG XII In 2012

Photo

Road trip!!!! Oklahoma is about to take what I'm willing to bet is the longest road trip for a conference game in the one hundred plus years of Sooner football. The Big East Conference and the West Virginia Mountaineers reached a conditional settlement on Thursday that will set WVU free to join the Big XII this year. An official announcement could be made as early as Friday.

Seven Sooners Receive NFL Combine Invite

According to OU, seven former Sooners have received invites for this year's NFL Combine which will take place February 22-28th. The Oklahoma players who were invited are: DE Frank Alexander, CB Jamell Fleming, TE, James Hanna, LB Ronnell Lewis, LB Travis Lewis, OT Donald Stephenson, and WR Ryan Broyles.

Now obviously Broyles won't be able to participate in the physical drills as he's just recently started running again after tearing his ACL. However, the rest of the guys are all expected to attend barring injury as they all likely could use the opportunity to improve their draft stock. Also per OU, the Sooners received the most player invites with A&M and OSU receiving six, Texas/Baylor/Mizzou with four, Iowa State with two, Kansas with one, and both Tech and K-State receiving zero.

Edmond Santa Fe Defensive End Commits On Eve Of National Signing Day

Defensive end Michael Onuoha couldn't quite wait until Wednesday to announce that he was going to be a Sooner. He made his announcement late Tuesday night via Twitter that he was heading to Norman to play his college ball. Rivals has the 6-5/225 Onuoha as a three-star recruit. The Sooners got in late on him but he also received offers from Arkansas, Houston, Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, SMU and Tulsa. His final choice came down between the Sooners and Missouri with many believing the Tigers had the edge. However, Oklahoma was able to sway him over the weekend when they made their final recruiting push.

Onuoha becomes the third recruit to commit to Oklahoma since the weekend - joining tight end Sam Grant and corner Zack Sanchez. He's also the third defensive end commit the Sooners have nabbed in the 2012 class with Chaz Nelson and Charles Tapper being the first two. He'll officially submit his LOI at a signing ceremony on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 (CST).

Stay with Crimson And Cream Machine throughout the day for the latest National Signing Day updates.

Oklahoma's Ben Habern has neck surgery

via a.espncdn.com

According to Carey Murdock at SoonerScoop ($), OU center Ben Habern recently had neck surgery caused from an injury that dated all the way back to his high school days. Evidently Murdock had been given the story, but sat on it out of respect to his source who didn't want the news to get out there until Oklahoma and Habern had been assured of the surgery's success. This has apparently taken place, which for OU but especially for Habern (and his family) is extremely good news.

Evidently, Habern will be in a neck brace for the next 4-6 weeks and is almost guaranteed to be held out of spring practices. But this is not expected to be career threatening and the coaches are fully anticipating him being ready to go this summer.

Oklahoma's 2012 Football Recruiting Class Strong And Looking To Grow

WR Trey Metoyer is ready to make an immediate impact at OU. Photo via photos3.newsok.com

With National Signing Day just a few days away Oklahoma is making a late push on the final weekend before players sign on the dotted line. As it stands right now the Sooners have a Top 10 class by just about every recruiting service under the sun despite the recent decommits. Adding a few more commitments this weekend will only provide to add more depth to the class and possibly boost their ranking.

Here's a look at who the Sooners already have in the fold and what their possible impact could be on the team.
