Sooner Nation Replay: 2012 Recruiting Class With ESPN Sooner Nation's Bob Przybylo

via a.espncdn.com Durron Neal is expected to be better than advertised. He has the passion for the game, the passion for the Sooners, and the drive to become a player to watch.

With the 2011 season in the books and nearly all the recruits the Oklahoma Sooners had been going after already having signed letters of intent with OU or another school, where does that leave us...evaluations. While it is never fair to grade out a class before they ever play a snap on the college level, ESPN Sooner Nation's Bob Przybylo joins us to break it all down. From who we should look at to have an immediate impact to the lack of linebacker recruits, we have it all. Not only do we dive in and take a look at the incoming class, we also take a look at 2013 prospects as Bob gives us the inside scoop. The Sooner coaching staff has taken an early and aggressive approach to the 2013 class but only time will tell if it will pay off.

CCM Roundtable - Five Point Firing Line

Is Trey Metoyer (17) the most anticipated recruit of the 2012 signing class?

Its my fault that it has been a little while since we've done a roundtable here at Crimson And Cream Machine but we're back with five topics to discuss in rapid fire format. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts in the comments section.

1. Looking back on Oklahoma's 2012 football recruiting class which player or players stand out and draw the most excitement from you?

jte - Wow, so many to choose from in my opinion. Is it Trey Metoyer for finally making it to campus? The late signing JUCO guys who all look like future NFL players? The "other" Missouri h.s. wide receiver Durron Neal. Or local products Alex Ross and Sterling Shepard? If I had to narrow it down to guys I'm most excited about for this coming year, I think I'd have to take (1) Courtney Gardner, (2) Trey Metoyer, and (3) Damien Williams. I think all three will be impact players for OU next year. I can already envision Gardner & Metoyer, along with incumbent starter Kenny Stills, absolutely terrorizing a still young Texas secondary in Dallas next year. With what we all hope will be a more balanced offense next year, Williams could be a real force behind what looks to be a stout OU offensive line.

Sooner Nation Replay: Mixed Response To Tim Kish Hiring

Oklahoma guard Sam Grooms (1) steals the ball from Kansas State center Jordan Henriquez (21) near the end of an NCAA college basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012, in Manhattan, Kan. Oklahoma won the game 63-60. (AP Photo/Charlie Riedel)

For the third week in a row, we are talking about a coaching change. This time it comes in the form of another hiring. With Brent Venables gone and Mike Stoops on staff, Tim Kish was brought in to fill the linebackers coach void. Not everyone was excited about this hire and was looking for a "homerun." However, those are few and far between. We give our responses to the big news.

Basketball gets a huge and much needed win in Manhattan. Given the current stretch they are one, the team will likely need to pick up one if not two wins in the next three games to keep their Big Dance hopes alive. How big of a win was this and will OU be able to match Iowa St.?

JTE gives us a great run down of the current recruiting scene. There have been a few recent commits with signing day literally just a few days in front of us. On top of that Junior Day is coming up as well and OU will have their hands full with recruiting news for the next several weeks to come. One major issue remains...where will DGB land? Much speculation is that he will sign with Arkansas but Missouri thinks they still have a shot and had a "welcoming party" for his visit. Did they hurt themselves or make a final push to get a signature on the dotted line?

Sooner Nation Replay: What Brent Venables Departure Means & Who Will Replace Him?

Photo

Brent Venables departure leaves more questions than it does answers at this time. Recruits will run into National Signing Day as it is just around the corner. Have Sooner recruits been affected or swayed by the recent coaching changes? Oklahoma fans should be used to the whirlwind that football has been this season and the dust is just now beginning to settle. Which part of Venables will be missed the most; his coaching or his recruiting? What does him leaving mean for players like Tom Wort and Corey Nelson in terms of their progression? The biggest topic of discussion is the potential candidates of who will replace Venables on this staff. We throw out a few names and debate the pros and cons of each then list our top three in order. Finally we get to basket and the disappointment that the Texas A&M game was and what it means for the rest of the season.

Sooner Nation Replay: Upset Weekend, Mike Stoops vs. Brent Venables

Photo

The Oklahoma Sooners ended the week on a high note as they down one of the better conference teams in the Kansas St. Wildcats. The benching of Cameron Clark seemed to give him the motivation that he needed to be a dependable scorer. Andrew Fitzgerald and Romero Osby got any shot they wanted but what was the change that became the catalyst for such a great game? Could it be the fact that Cam Clark was benched and replaced by Carl Blair? There is just a little more to it than that. But it begs the question, coming off a stellar performance, how big are the next two games as the Baylor Bears are just around the corner?

Switching gears, there is much football talk still engulfing Norman, Oklahoma but not all of it is favorable talk. Mike Stoops has officially been hired which sparked the resignation of Willie Martinez. Most of us will agree that Mike alongside Brent Venables is the desired coaching combo specifically for the recruiting aspects each bring. Jordan gives a great overview of all the recruiting news with the recent hiring and departure. However, Venables has been confirmed as talking to recruits at Clemson. Are we reading too much into this by saying that there is a good chance he will jump ship? There are not many names being tossed around to fill the void assuming Venables does leave. As we ended the show, Venables was stepping off an airplane into a crowd of reports all asking the same question...what's the verdict?
