Where I Come From: EA Sports NCAA Football 2011 Available Now

This post is sponsored by EA Sports NCAA Football 2011

When you go to a particular school or grow up around college football, you are more than just a fan. It's who you are. We thought we could leverage this pride in your roots and show that "where you come from" is more than just a statement about geography. By positioning NCAA Football 11 as a game that understands this pride and is authentic to these traditions, the takeaway should be that anything that is in college football is in NCAA Football 11.

And this doesn't just include game play (though that's a huge part of it). It's rivals and mascots; it's legends and stories. It's those things that are at the very fabric of the game itself. Of course the game is great this year as well. With authentic entrances, mascots and specific offenses for each team, the term "where I come from" takes on a much larger meaning. While playing NCAA Football 11 is ultimately a great sports sim, it should also give you a sense of the pride and emotion one has for being a fan of a team they will never not be a part of.

Where I Come From: Expectations For The 2010 Oklahoma Football Season

This post is sponsored by EA Sports NCAA Football 2011

We spent last week wrapped in great conversation about past seasons and past heros but now its time to look ahead a bit. Today's topic of conversation is expectations. What should we realistically expect from our 2010 Oklahoma Sooners? I'm expecting history to repeat itself. You know, it is an even year and over the last decade (2000,2002,2004,2006,2008,????) that has meant the year of the Sooners.

Where I Come From: Most Memorable Oklahoma Football Moments

This post is sponsored by EA Sports NCAA Football 2011

When you sit around and talk Oklahoma football with your friends and family what are the stories you love to rehash. You know the one you've told so many times that the people who weren't actually there with you can recite the story word for word. Everyone has one; they're the most memorable moments to use. The times when our jaws dropped and our hearts pounded. When what seemed impossible suddenly became possible.

Most of us have more than one. I suddenly realized while thinking up this post that my most memorable moments were all pretty much blowouts. Not that I don't like the, "edge of my seat/give me grey hair early" nail biters. It's just that I've never enjoyed had more fun at a college football game than I did at the top three here on my list. So here we go - my top five most memorable Oklahoma football moments. Let us hear about yours in the comments section.

Where I Come From: My All-Time Favorite Oklahoma Football Players

This post is sponsored by EA Sports NCAA Football 2011

This is the toughest subject of all in my opinion. There have been so many great football players that have gone through Oklahoma's locker room that to narrow it down to just one seems harsh and impossible. Of course if I take the time to mention every single player that I had somewhat of a, "man crush" on then this would be the post that never ends. So, how about this? I'll give you my top five favorite Sooners, throw in a few honorable mentions and then you guys fill in the blanks. Sound fair?

Where I Come From: Tailgating Traditions

This post is sponsored by EA Sports NCAA Football 2011

I gotta be honest with you. I'm not real good at tailgating. Not because I don't know how to fire up the charcoal or because I don't have anyone to hang out with at the games. It's just I'm so superstitious that I pretty much go through the same routine every week on game day including wearing the same clothes every Saturday. Come on, Don't act like you don't have your own lucky Sooner shirt!

Only two home losses over the last decade stand in testimony to the, "if it ain't broke - don't fix it rule." So, game day has to be a routine and in my house its a fun one.

Where I Come From: My All-Time Favorite Oklahoma Football Team

This post is sponsored by EA Sports NCAA Football 2011.

The 1985 Oklahoma football team was special to me. I can remember being extremely disappointed after the loss to Miami but also the elation of beating Penn State in the Orange Bowl to secure yet another national championship. That team was full of "villains" to the world of college football. Guys like The Boz and Keith Jackson were flamboyant and arrogant. You either loved them or hated them and while most of the nation couldn't stand them, they were adored by the Sooner Nation. Despite the loss to Miami they finished the season 10-1 and entered that Orange Bowl game as the #3 team in the nation and whipped top ranked Penn State 25-10. Love them or hate them one thing was for sure, the 1985 Sooners could back up their talk on the field. I loved that team but they finish second to my all-time favorite.

Where I Come From: How I Became An Oklahoma Sooners Fan

This post is sponsored by EA Sports NCAA Football 2011.

I'm one of those people who can literally say that I've been an Oklahoma football fan my entire life. I can't remember never not watching, following and supporting the Sooners. There never was a choice for me and had I been given another option I wouldn't have taken it. When it came to college football it was OU or nothing!

Growing up the fall meant scheduling our Saturdays around Oklahoma football. We didn't plan any events or make any commitments until first looking at the television or radio broadcast. I can remember more than one occasion when my mom had to attend social events by herself because she broke the cardinal rule of not first consulting the football schedule before making a commitment. Did my dad and I feel bad about that? Nah.

Once I discovered Sooner football I was hooked. Thanksgiving weekend wasn't complete until after the OU/Nebraska game and the quality of the leftover turkey was based solely on the outcome of that game. When Oklahoma won there was nothing better than a turkey and bacon sandwich but when the Sooners lost, "We'd had turkey for three days now. We need to order a pizza."

The first team I truly remember following was the 1979 team. Oklahoma went 11-1 won that year and won the Big 8 by going 7-0 against conference opponents. They also beat Florida State in the Orange Bowl, a game I still remember watching on New Year's Day in the living room of my grandfather's farmhouse.

The first game I ever attended in person was the 1988 Kansas State game. Oklahoma won 70-24 and my life was never the same again. I've been to at least one home game every year since then and have had the pleasure of getting season tickets for the last 8 years.

Its funny how time changes a person's perspective on things. When I was a kid there was nothing bigger than OU football. It meant spending time with my dad and screaming at the television for three hours. Those are cherished memories that I wouldn't trade for anything. Now though, there are a lot bigger matters in life than college football. Paying bills, putting a roof over my family's head and striving everyday to set an example as a man that my children can look up to and be proud of. Still though on Saturday's football is king. You'll find my sons and I up and dressed, in our Sooner gear, at 9:00 am with Game Day on and then off to the stadium for home games or off to lite the grill for the watch party for road games.

Its a tradition in my house now. That's what Saturday's are like in the fall. The boys cook the food, the girls clean the dishes and we all enjoy screaming at the television and passing around high fives all afternoon. I wouldn't have it any other way. That's my story, now tell us yours!

The 2010 college football season is getting closer and closer with each passing moment. Among the things that help bide the time until September 4th are preseason magazines, preseason prediction shows and the newest release of EA Sports NCAA Football

In preparation for next week's release of NCAA Football 2011, EA Sports asked to sponsor a week's worth of posts leading up to Tuesday, July 13th. That means we'll be celebrating our Sooners and how we cheer for them all week long. We're going to go in depth on exactly what it means to be an OU football fan. I'll be posting once a day between now and the release of the game next Tuesday, with the series: How I Came To Be A Diehard Sooner Fan. Here's how its going to shake down:

Today: How I Became An Oklahoma Football Fan

Wednesday: Tailgating Traditions

Thursday: All-Time Favorite Sooners

Friday: Most Memorable Moments

Monday: Expectations for the 2010 Season
