Landry Jones interview on College Football Live
I saw this last night as I was sitting down for my evening meal and thought the commentary by Joey Galloway and Trevor Matich about the production drop off after Broyles knee injury was somewhat interesting.
Just Heard Rumor That OU Hired Kish
This will be short and to the point. I just heard, from a from a source that I consider fairly reliable, that OU has hired Kish as LB coach and Kish has accepted. It was from a Twitter feed from Bruce Feldman. Can someone with better sources verify this? I'm on the verge of royally pissed because this solidifies Bob's interest in only hiring people he knows and is akin to the way Scott Pioli is running his personal playground in Kansas City. Sorry for the brevity and the lack of substance for a FanPost, but I needed it out there.
Will we ever have a playoff system?
Ever since the season ended an outcry for a playoff system has been louder than ever before and myself included would like to see one but after thinking it over I don't think that will happen anytime soon mostly because of money. Realistically, if we have say a 10 team playoff the importance of the regular season is diminished greatly. For example take this season the LSU vs Alabama regular season game didnt matter at all when it came down to who was going to play in the championship. Another downside to a playoff is the quality of certain games could be lost, specifically for us the Red River Rivalry could be played twice a year instead of once, which to me diminishes the importance of the rivalry in the first place and could impact interest and not to mention ticket sales. The tv stations might not like a playoff neither, particularly because if repeat games do happen which is very likely for some teams ratings could suffer, we've seen what repeats do to ratings (LSU vs ALA) its not good, also the playoff would clash with the NFL playoffs, college basketball programming, and the NBA programming (which they wont like), pretty much what Im saying is college football would cut into someones money.
The TV stations might also not want to take a chance on a Cinderella team with a small fan base going to the championship because that could impact ratings too which is a no no and whoever is sponsoring the championship game might not like it because having a team with a small fan base could impact ticket sales. I wouldn't care if a cinderella team made it to the championship because they would have deserved it if they were winning in a playoff system but Im just saying the ones in charge wont like it because the potential loss of money is greater.
IMO I dont think we will ever see a true playoff system maybe a plus one, which is still doubtful. All in all I would be more content with them making a simple rule change stating that you must win your division and conference in order to play in the national championship game. Again, I personally want a playoff but I do see why we might not ever get one. Remember the Golden Rule, "Whoever Has The Gold Makes The Rule"
Brandon Beaver: "Throw me a friggin bone here" (In dr evil voice).
This is absolutely insane. How could the coaches let this happen this late i the game? I would doubt he inks with us now, but who knows. Maybe the coaches can reel him back in and get a visit before signing day. It's an insider link from recruiting nation but you can see enough to understand what's up.
Did BV get fired or did he just quit?
I'm kinda curious if the plan all along was to keep BV or let him find another job aka fired. From the outside looking in it kinda seems that way, because we all know Martinez was fired with his "resignation" earlier. But I could be wrong and he might have just left because he pretty much got demoted. If he did quit willingly no one can really blame him because most people would have done the same thing. IMO I think Bob pretty much fired him because by bringing his brother back he knew the chances of losing BV was huge but he did it anyway, I don't buy that crap about BV being 100% on board with the return of Mike because he knew that he would be demoted like he was and OU tried extremely hard to make it look like everything was picture perfect which is really out of character for them. So what do yall think really happened, because we will never get a confirmation about what really went down?
Recruiting news
Ok.ok.ok...jte I know that DGB doesn't talk about it, so I'm not gonna even ask your opinion on him...although scouts.com or rivals is saying something about it...more like their predictions of where he'll go...but what about Banner and Stefon Diggs and the other recruits? Do we know if we r behind USC for banner or in the lead, etc? With all the news about Mike Stoops, will there be ny new recruits headed our way?
Question: Did the BCS title game give OU the upper hand in the Dorial Green-Beckham sweepstakes?
I won't even lie, that Bama defense looked flat out scary, and even LSU's defense looked better than any other defense (excluding Bama) that I saw this season. I know DGB had to be glued to his television watching those two defenses that he will potentially face next year, if he goes to Arkansas. Obviously if Bama is still on his short list, they may have gained the most leverage.
All indications are that Green-Beckham has pretty much narrowed his decision down to OU and Arkansas... that's what I've read. If that is true, going to Arkansas would mean that he has to play both of those defenses every year as well as some other pretty good defenses (i.e. South Carolina and Georgia). With Green-Beckham obviously being a future NFL prospect, there is two sides to this argument:
1. Go to Arkansas and show the NFL scouts that he can be productive in the most respected conference, playing against the nation's best defenses. But going this route he stands a chance of having some really bad games and possibly even a bad season. And to no fault of his abilities either... the elite SEC defenses just find a way to make average QBs look awful. And if the QB can't get him the ball, he looks bad.
2. Come to OU and pretty much become unstoppable. I don't think there is any doubt that this kid would start immediately if he came to OU. I think he also has a chance to shatter all of Broyles' records, as sad as that would make me. This kid has unbelievable size and ability. And dominating the Big 12 surely is something that the pro scouts will respect. But the uncertainty at QB (after the 2012 season) might be an issue for him as well.
We are about 20 days away from all speculation being put to rest. I just wanted to have some fun before the big announcement. Curious to know your thoughts. And of course I hope he goes with option 2 :)
FBS Playoff
As reported here on everyone's favorite sports network, the leaders of the BCS will meet to discuss the future of the tool that is supposed to decide the NCAA football national champion. Like many of you, I fully understand that this "meeting" is just a bunch of harrumphing and guffawing and slapping each other on the back for another season complete and another season keeping the highly faulty BCS system intact.
The fearless leaders of the enigma officially labeled the "BCS" claim that any and all ideas will be discussed and on the table...whatever that means. I bet it means the same thing as when the President claims that any and all ideas are on the table to fix the economy. We all know the actual translation...of which I shall spare you my rendition. Who buys that? Not this guy.
What this division needs (like every other division of football, college or otherwise has) is a playoff. More of my playoff thoughts after the jump.
