The Associated Press released its Preseason Top 25 Poll on Sunday morning, and the Oklahoma Sooners are ranked No. 3 nationally. The Sooners were previously ranked No. 3 by the Amway Coaches Poll. However, the Sooners received four first-place votes after receiving none in the Coaches Poll.
The rankings go as follows:
- Alabama (33)
- Clemson (16)
- Oklahoma (4)
- Florida State (5)
- LSU (1)
- Ohio State (1)
- Michigan (1)
- Stanford
- Tennessee
- Notre Dame
- Ole Miss
- Michigan State
- TCU
- Washington
- Houston
- UCLA
- Iowa
- Georgia
- Louisville
- USC
- Oklahoma State
- North Carolina
- Baylor
- Oregon
- Florida
I know I probably sound like a broken record, but - as I said when the Coaches Poll and ESPN Power Rankings came out - OU is exactly where it deserves to be. Also, the Sooners will be facing five teams from this poll during the regular reason, including three from the top 15 in the first five games.
Finally, who the hell is the person who voted Michigan No. 1? I mean... really? Throughout the history of the sport, Michigan has always received a bit more respect than deserved, and that trend continued today. My guess is that some voter from the 1930s or 1940s - one who turned his nose up to any school west of the Mississippi or south of the Mason-Dixon Line - voted in this poll. He buried a time capsule in Central Park with a ballot and a note that read, “Jim Harbaugh is a TRUE Michigan Man, and a Michigan Man always gets things done!”.
