Longhorns Overpower Sooners To Take Series

The dominance of the Texas Longhorns over Oklahoma baseball in Norman continued in a big way on Saturday as the Sooners fell 7-2 in the second game, dropping their first weekend series of the season.

Texas struck in the first when Ben Johnson scored on a Tres Barrera ground out to short. The Sooners would tie it up in the bottom of the second Mac James scored off a Kolby Carpenter double-play ball. That would be it for an Oklahoma rally attempt. Instead the Longhorns would plate six more runs through the fourth and fifth innings to take absolute control of the game.

For the second day in a row it was Oklahoma's starting pitching that faltered, giving the Longhorns an early lead. Unlike Friday night, the Sooners didn't have a rally of their own. OU stayed off the scoreboard until the bottom of the eighth when Keach Ballard scored on a Sheldon Neuse double.

Adam Choplick gets saddled for the loss after giving up five runs, off seven hits, in the 3.2 innings that he worked. Robert Tasin came out of the pen to go the rest of the way for Oklahoma and threw a respectable 5.1 innings, allowing just two runs off three hits.

On the other side, Dillon Peters went a solid seven full innings in the win. He was on the hook for both of Oklahoma's runs but only gave up 7 hits against the 27 batters he faced. John Curtiss came out of the pen in the eighth to close out the game. He pitched two scoreless innings and allowed just one hit.

Texas hasn't lost in Norman since the series finale of 2008 and has won nine consecutive road games in the series now.

The two will play the final game of their series on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 pm.
