Huge Fourth Quarter Lifts TCU

Through three quarters of football on Saturday TCU and SMU were involved in a grinder of a game. The Mustangs took a 10-7 lead into the locker room at the half but by the time the third quarter ended the Horned Frogs had established a 17-13 lead. That's when things broke lose and the game got out of control.

Just as the final quarter started, Trevone Boykin hooked up with Ja'Juan Story for a 56-yard touchdown pass. A few minutes later B.J. Catalon scored from eleven yards out to boost the TCU lead to 31-10. The Frogs would score three more times in the quarter (twice on offense and once on defense) to turn what was a tight game into an absolute rout.

The 48-17 win improved TCU's record to 2-2 on the season and perhaps more importantly boosted the confidence of Boykin as the quarterback. The sophomore quarterback completed 15 of 26 passes for 228 yards and two scores to no interceptions.

UTSA And Lamar Can't Prepare OSU For West Virginia

The debate is over as to whether it was Baylor or Oklahoma State with the Big Twelve's most potent offense. West Virginia, who entered today's game with a 2-2 record, held Oklahoma State to 21 points and forced three turnovers in a 30-21 upset win over the Cowboys.

O-State quarterback J.W. Walsh was 20/47 for 322 yards but was also responsible for two of the Cowboys' three turnovers. Even more harmful for OSU was the team average of 2.8 rushing yards per carry.

Equally impressive for the Mountaineers was their offensive performance. The Mountaineers came into the game averaging just 18 points per game, and were shutout by Maryland last week, but were able to put 23 points on the board against OSU. A defensive score in the first quarter got West Virginia on the board with their first touchdown and then the offense was able to get going after that to complete the win.

Clint Trickett became the third quarterback to start for the Mountaineers this season. He passed for 309 yards and a score in the win but also had two interceptions and ended up leaving the game early with an injury.
