Texas Gets First Win Over KSU Since 2003

In the most anticipated matchup within the Big XII this weekend, the Texas Longhorns got the better part of the Kansas St. Wildcats. Avoiding the 1-3 start, Mack Brown and his crew beat the Wildcats 31-21 marking the first victory over KSU since 2003.

David Ash returned to the action after suffering from a concussion. Again, he would be forced to sit out the second half with a new head injury as Case McCoy took over. While the backup led the team on two scoring drives, it would be Johnathan Gray who stole the show. During the third quarter, the Longhorns appeared to be solidly in control as Gray dashed into the endzone and a 24-7 lead.

With poor defensive performances for UT heading into tonight, nothing seemed to change as Tyler Lockett racked up 237 yards on 13 catches. John Hubert punched in two touchdowns on the ground as the Wildcats came roaring back in the fourth. With the game set at 14-24 and KSU driving, hopes were squandered as Jake Waters fumbled on the Texas 6.

One one final possession, a great return set up Kansas St. inside the 15 yard line. However, the Longhorns came up with two sacks and another forced fumble to seal the win.

Defense Steps Up As Texas Tech Routs Texas St.

Stats may be misleading and often are as they were on Saturday night. Texas Tech's Davis Webb threw for 310 yards after relieving starter Tyler Arndt in the second quarter. However, those numbers are below par for a Red Raider offense knowing that came with two interceptions as well as two touchdowns. One thing that was not clicking for the Texas Tech Red Raiders was the offense.

At this point in time, it would appear that the Red Raiders are moving to a two quarterback approaching in an attempt to get experience. Who will be the front-runner for the starting job next season will be left undecided until the close of 2013...

We've got to do a lot better with that position overall. I told them both they're probably going to play the rest of the year. Two freshman quarterbacks, that's what you get early on and we'll continue to get better. - Kliff Kingsbury

In a moment of need, the defense stepped up allowing a mere 240 yards of offense to the Texas St. Bobcats and seven points. The lone touchdown came on a 49-yard run by Robert Lowe in the early going of the second half.

Turnovers Prove Costly As West Virginia Falls

The West Virginia Mountaineers could not find a rhythm as they lost six turnovers. After being named the starter, Ford Childress followed up decent performance with one he'd like to forget...and soon. With just 62 yards through the air and a 50% completion rate, those are not the numbers that Dana Holgerson had hoped for.

WVU had not been shutout since 2001 against Virginia Tech. Can you say that the season has come crashing down for the Moutaineers? I am about ready to as the loss of three key players seems to affecting them more than I had initially thought.

The Terrapins remain undefeated at 4-0 and are looking to make a run into the rankings!

Baylor Steamrolls ULM

The Baylor Bears continue an offensive onslaught pouring in another 70 point game to send the ULM Warhawks packing with a 70-7 final. It would be the third time this season Baylor has scored 60 or more points. Art Briles may very well have the best offense in the nation. In the bout, the Bear tallied up 781 total yards to tie a school record this team had set previously this season.

Bryce Petty continues to impress behind four passing touchdowns and a single rushing score. The day ended with Petty putting his cap on early in the second half as the Bear went on cruise control already up 63-7. This is one program that could scare and surprise a few others down the road.

On the ground, Lache Seastrunk added another 100-yard rushing game to his resume. With 10 carries, this kid racked up 156 yards. Today's game marked the 7th consecutive occasion as he continues to push the school record.

Kansas Wins By A Leg

After a tight battle, the Kansas Jayhawks eventually emerged victorious. With the clock winding down and the score knotted up at 10, the Bulldogs marched down the field for what should have been a go ahead score. But, as the day would have it, the ball popped out as Kansas recovered on their own 5-yard line.

Going the opposite way, KU found themselves in field goal range as Matt Wyman had the kick of a lifetime. The 52 yard attempt was good as KU downed Louisiana Tech 13-10.

The biggest story line here has been the question of if and when will KU defeat an FBS opponent. Entering today's contest, the Kansas Jayhawks had yet to do so during a dismal 1-11 season last year. Needless to say the only way for this team to go would be up.

Jake Heaps threw for 279 yards. However, he had only one touchdown to two interceptions...not ideal stats for a struggling Jayhawks team.
