OU Baseball | Sooners Earn A Series Sweep Over TCU With 4-3 Extra Innings Win On Sunday

Freshman Hunter Haley provided the extra inning heroics for Oklahoma on Sunday with a walk-off single to earn the Sooners a 4-3 victory and series sweep over TCU. It was the second extra inning game of the weekend with the two teams playing bonus baseball in Friday's contest as well.

TCU jumped out to a 3-0 with two in the third and another in the fourth, but OU would chip away at the lead with a run of their own in the fifth before tying it in the following inning. And that was all the scoring until Haley's game-winning hit in the bottom of the tenth.

In what could only be described as a 'group effort' from the OU bullpen, the Sooners used five different pitchers (all left-handers ironically enough) including starter Adam Choplick who only lasted through the first three innings. Billy Waltrip, Jake Fisher, Ethan Carnes, and Jacob Evans would pitch the next seven innings and allow only one unearned run.

In addition to Haley, the stars of the game at the plate for Oklahoma were center fielder Craig Aikin and catcher Anthony Hermelyn. Aikin had three hits and a somewhat rare RBI, while Hermelyn also had three hits and two big RBI which tied the game up at three for OU in the sixth inning.

The game however was not without controversy, albeit having nothing to do with the happenings on the diamond. As pointed out by the Oklahoma Daily's Jono Greco, the program record hitting streak we all believed Matt Oberste had recently broken apparently is in question.

So, basically for all the times you've seen his hitting streak referenced back to last season appears to have been incorrect. He still has a hitting streak, it's just not quite as long as once believed since it started in Oklahoma's first game this season. Oberste had two more hits in Sunday's game, OU's 26th of the season thus putting Oberste's hit streak at....you guessed it, 26 games.

With the win, Oklahoma now moves to 22-4 on the season and 3-0 in Big 12 play. The Sooners return to action Tuesday in Tulsa with a one game midweek set against Oral Roberts.
