There are not many holes to fill or questions heading into the spring with this specific unit. Jay Boulware comes to Norman as the new special teams coach but inherits a ton of talent and experience while his specific duties have yet to be defined.

Underwhelming may be the best way to describe Oklahoma's linebackers in 2012. To be fair, there was a lot going on in Tim Kish's first season as the linebackers coach. They were asked to play differently than in previous years under Brent Vanables and the struggles of the d-line didn't help in terms of keeping the backers clean of blockers. Just like their front line, the theme for the linebackers this spring isn't to reflect on 2012. Rather, its to see how they can improve before the fall arrives.

This really isn't a 'preview' per se, but seeing as it's spring related I figured we could throw it in the story stream here.
As first reported by Carey Murdock of SoonerScoop.com, Oklahoma reserve offensive tackle Nathan Hughes is no longer with the football program.
Hughes, originally a member of the 2011 class, signed with the Sooners as a defensive end out of high school. His signing was somewhat odd at the time given that at 6'6" he was considerably bigger than anyone Oklahoma had recruited at defensive end in the past.
In true Oklahoma fashion, the coaches moved him to offensive line last year because of his aforementioned size and athleticism. Hughes never saw the field in either of his two years in Norman.
With the rumors of Oklahoma considering a change to a 3-4 defensive scheme, there was some speculation that Hughes could move back to the defensive line this year. With his size, he seemed like a good fit as a 3-4 defensive end. Obviously, that won't be happening now.

The Sooners may return much experience at the defensive end position, but they do return a bunch of raw talent.

The Oklahoma Sooners will return four of the five starters from the offensive line. This makes one of the bigger question marks fall upon Bill Bedenbough and what he will be capable of getting out of this unit heading into the 2013 season, a season most expect to center around the rushing attack.

It is no secret that the Sooners possess great depth at the receiver position. With all that talent, competition remains stiff while trying to crack the depth chart. Oklahoma will be looking to fill the void that Kenny Stills and Justin Brown leave in the air attack and have multiple options.

Oklahoma returns virtually every backfield contributor in 2013 at what should be a position of significant strength for the Sooners.

The Landry Jones era has come to an end at the University of Oklahoma. While some fans are delighted to see him go, and yet others thankful for his contributions, the truth of the matter is that the impact of Jones' departure won't be fully known until this fall. We'll get our first glimpse of the postJones era this spring as the Sooners' current group of quarterbacks battle to become the next starting quarterback and leader of the offense.
