George Mason makes the trip to the nation's capitol with the Oklahoma Sooners up next on the schedule. A team with high hopes after reaching the 2013 CBI Finals, the Patriots will rely on depth and experience to carry them into the NCAA Tournament this season. With a conference move, competition will be stiff but George Mason looks ready to make a run. Currently, the program is sporting a 5-3 record.
The George Mason Patriots return seven players who started in at least 18 games last season. Moving into the Atlantic 10, experience is a need the Patriots can certainly cross of the list. What kind of experience are we looking at here? Well, the top four scorers are all seniors with the only addition being a single signee.
Leading the way for the Patriots is none other than Sharrod Wright, a clutch performer. After a small drop in numbers last season, Wright has found his stride averaging 17.5 points per game. However, where this talented players is most dangerous is from beyond the arc. At a 40% conversion rate, defenders must know where Wright then get a hand in his face. Losing him on screens may prove costly from time to time. Make no mistake, Wright is an above average sharp shooter but he also knows how to get the charity stripe.
Behind him is Byron Allen, a player known for his ability to find the open man. After averaging four assists per game last season, Allen is seeing a shift in his role on this squad to being more of a scoring option. Yes, this is a kid averaging 4.5 assists per game this season but has upped his scoring output to double digits.
Last but not least is Marko Gujanicic, a 6-8 sophomore from Serbia. In the frontcourt, Gujanicic is pulling down 6.8 rebounds per game and possesses an uncanny ability to dish out dimes from the post. When he gets a good look at the rim, this international player finds the bottom of the net often. He currently is the second leading scorer at 11.9 points per game and continues to develop his post moves.
