In 2007, Texas A&M-CC lost Ronnie Arrow which sent the program into a downward spiral. The trend continued as the past two seasons have produced a mere six wins each. Hopefully for Islander fans, that is rock bottom as missing the Southland Tournament certainly stings. Now, the only place left to go is up.
Willis Wilson benefits greatly by having all five starters return along with four other role players. However, the area of greatest concern reveals itself in scoring. After averaged 60.1 points per game, the Islanders have upped their output to 66.8 ppg. Thus far, that number has been good enough to keep games close but not necessarily win them as the defense only allowed 67.7 ppg last season.
John Jordan has emerged as a leader on this squad. Shooting an efficient 45.2% from the floor, this kid leads the Islanders in scoring at 15.4 points but Jordan is known as a floor general. With a high assist to turnover ratio (2.1), Texas A&M-CC will look to him to facilitate the offense.
There to help Jordan turn this train around is Jeff Beverly (11.0 ppg) and Hameed Ali (9.8 ppg). If this trio clicks throughout the duration of the year, there is a good chance the Islanders will find themselves in the post season once again.
Unfortunately for some of our readers here at CCM, the game comes on at 7:00 PM CST on Thursday, December 5th. Now I know what you are thinking...that will bleed into the podcast! But I have good news for you. The podcast has been moved to Wednesday night December 4th at 8:45 PM CST so you can now catch both.
