Injuries are part of the football season. Ultimately, injuries can take a team from the top of the totem pole to the bottom in a hurry. Now, the Oklahoma Sooners are headed to the Allstate Sugar Bowl to battle the Alabama Crimson Tide. With nearly a month to prepare, both sidelines are hoping for some of their key injuries to heal up.
Oklahoma Sooners
Trevor Knight - Shoulder - The coaching staff continues to keep the progress and current status of this young quarterback a mystery. With the idea of forcing Alabama, a team many consider to be the best in the land, to prepare for all situation, can you blame them? However, it is widely believed that he will be the starter on January 2nd. Newson6 is reporting that Knight has returned to practice already.
Tyrus Thompson - Undisclosed - Will most likely miss the Allstate Sugar Bowl per reports.
Adam Shead - Back - Will most likely miss the Allstate Sugar Bowl per reports.
Aaron Colvin - Toe - Playing in the Bedlam game with turf toe, Colvin left on crutches. Of course turf toe is something that this talented CB has played through previously and will likely repeat the feat if need be. The time off should provide him with enough rest that Colvin will be at 100% by the time the bowl game rolls around.
Jordan Evans - Ankle - Proving to be a viable option as a freshman at linebacker, the Sooners have been without Evans through the last three games of the season. This talented player has returned to practice with his teammates.
DJ Ward - Stomach - Coming in with high expectations after missing his senior year of high school due to a transfer rule, Ward would have his spleen removed. He has yet to play a game this season and will likely not play in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Jordan Phillips - Back - A star in the making, Phillips' presence was immediately missed along the defensive line. Requiring surgery, Phillips is not expected to play in the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
Trey Millard - Knee - Injured after returning for his senior season, Millard has proved to be a valuable part of the Sooners squad. NewsOK has reported that Millard's recovery process in on schedule including the fact that he has started lifting weights again.
Corey Nelson - Chest - The anchor and heart and soul of this defense, Nelson missed all but five games due to a torn pectoral muscle. Since the injury he has sought a fifth year of eligibility from the NCAA after being denied by the Big XII. While the NCAA has denied his initial appeal, Nelson is currently seeking another review as a last option.
