Sooners Defensive Tackle, Jordan Phillips, To Miss Remainder Of The Season After Back Surgery

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

During his regular Monday meeting with the media, Bob Stoops announced that Oklahoma defensive tackle Jordan Phillips would be forced to miss the remainder of this season due to a back issue.  It's the same injury that has forced him to miss Oklahoma's last two games and believed to be a genetic issue Phillips has been dealing with for some time.

It's a devastating loss for an Oklahoma defense desperate for difference makers and the dominating presence Phillips has been in the middle of the Sooners revamped 3-3-5 defense.

Jordan Wade and Torrea Peterson will continue to be called upon in Phillips' absence just as they have in these previous two games, but neither have played nearly as well as Phillips did prior to his injury.

It remains to be seen whether or not one-time supposed savior and junior college transfer Quincy Russell will every play a role in this OU defense.  Though obviously Phillips being out for the rest of the season has to increase the likelihood. Or at least one would think.
