OU Football Recruiting | Sooners Hosting A Number Of 2013 Official Visitors This Weekend

SoonerScoop.com

Oklahoma will host a number of 2013 official visitors this weekend and could even come away with a couple verbal commitments.

On a weekend that was originally planned to be a double feature of sorts with Oklahoma planning their first Junior Day and hosting a number of 2013 official visitors has turned into only the latter. The OU coaches cancelled what would have been their earliest Junior Day ever earlier this week and instead will focus on closing out strong in this 2013 class.

While Oklahoma has done well with the verbal commitments they currently have, this 2013 class has been more defined by the guys they do not have rather than the ones they do. The OU coaches have missed on an alarming amount of their top targets at a number of different positions. The Sooners have struggled in recruiting this year like they haven't struggled in quite some time.

So this weekend will be huge for them as we're now less than thirty days from National Signing Day.

DT Charles Walker 6'4" 280 lbs (Garland, TX) - VIDEO

Walker is a guy who has been very much under the radar, but has burst onto the scene recently with some very impressive senior film. The Oklahoma scholarship offer only added to the attention as they tend to do. Injuries have been the only reason Walker has not received more attention. When he has been healthy he's been absolutely dominant, which was never more evident than in his senior film.

He's a guy that, if he can stay healthy, could be a real diamond in the rough for Oklahoma if they could secure his commitment. Walker discussed possibly committing at the time the Sooners offered and has said if he likes what he sees this weekend he could commit on the spot.

Walker currently holds offers from Oklahoma, Houston, Iowa State, New Mexico, and North Texas among others.

WR KJ Young 6'0" 180 lbs (Perris, CA) - VIDEO

Young is another guy, like Walker, who has been mainly under the radar until recently. Again, like Walker, his senior film played a big role in the attention he's receiving. He was a guy that was playing out of position and find his niche once he was moved into the slot. He has exceptional ball skills and body control, both which are very evident in his film. Would be an absolutely perfect fit in this Oklahoma offense with how they use their slot receivers.

Like Walker, Young was a guy who has talked about possibly committing this weekend though he has backed off that a tad as of late with the newfound attention he's received following OU's offer.

Young currently holds offers from Oklahoma, Boise State, Colorado, Iowa State, UNLV, and UTEP among others.

CB L.J. Moore 6'1" 170 lbs (Fresno, CA)

This is a trip Moore had previously attempted to plan a couple of different times, but it appears he'll finally make the trek east to Norman. Moore is teammates with current Oklahoma commit Hatari Byrd as the two play together in a loaded secondary for Central East High School.

He's a guy who excels in man coverage, often playing up close to the line of scrimmage. He's also not afraid to come up in run support, both of which are qualities Mike Stoops is well known to like in his defensive backs.

It's tough to really know where Oklahoma stands with Moore though having a teammate of his currently committed certainly can't hurt their chances.

Moore currently holds offers from a number of schools, but his primary suitors at the moment appear to be Oklahoma, Arizona State, Notre Dame, and Oregon State.

WR Devin Lauderdale 5'11" 170 lbs (Houston, TX)

As a likely result of Kenny Stills declaring early and the ever increasing likelihood that the Sooners are no longer seriously in the running for 2013 No. 1 wide receiver Laquon Treadwell, Oklahoma invited Lauderdale to Norman this weekend.

The Houston area receiver was previously committed to Texas Tech, but reopened his recruitment following the bizarre departure of Tommy Tuberville. He's still considering Tech, but in addition to his trip to Norman this weekend he also has visits scheduled to Notre Dame and Oklahoma State.

He's not the biggest guy in the world, but he's explosive and makes a ton of plays from the receiver position. Very quick in and out of his cuts, he's another guy who would excel out of the slot. At this point, it's probably a situation where it is either him or Young as it would be difficult to see Oklahoma taking both.

Lauderdale currently holds offers from Oklahoma, California, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and West Virginia among others.

S Tahaan Goodman 6'2" 185 lbs (Rancho Cucamonga, CA)

Goodman is an elite level safety prospect whose ability against both the run and pass really jumps out to you on film. He's everything Mike Stoops looks for in a safety, a guy who can come up and lay the big hit but also the rare guy at safety you can put out there on an island.

Unfortunately, that's where the good news stops. Oklahoma would have to pull off one heck of a coup here to even realistically be in the picture. He and good friend Priest Willis are all but assured to wind up at the same school and while both hold offers from Oklahoma the latter really isn't considering the Sooners.

Goodman currently holds offers from Arizona State, Florida, LSU, Nebraska, Texas A&M, UCLA, and USC among others.

OT Matt Finnin 6'8" 330 lbs (Glen Ellyn, IL) - VIDEO

Finnin is a massive junior college offensive tackle who could play on either the right or left side at the Division I level. He plays with the kind of mean streak fans love to see in offensive lineman. Moves well even for a guy of his size.

His was an offer that made a lot more sense before Josiah St. John committed, but a player that Oklahoma would certainly still take a commitment from. Given OU's current situation however, if they were going to take any more commitments from offensive tackles ideally they'd be from the high school ranks.

Finnin currently holds offers from Oklahoma, Baylor, Florida International, Iowa State, Kansas, Nebraska, Washington State, and West Virginia among others.
