Friday Locks: Deadlocked In Mediocrity

Is this the weekend that Penn State picks up a win. At least one of us thinks so. (Photo by Rob Carr/Getty Images)

Through the first two weeks of the season our Friday Locks have fallen way short of being spectacular. At least for Jordan and Richard they rebounded from a horrible week one and had a respectable second week. Certainly can't say the same thing about my picks though. Yuck!

So take the jump, if you dare, to see who we are picking this week. How knows, you could possibly use a good chuckle to brighten your day.

Jordan

Wisconsin (-14) vs. Utah State - Coming off a really bad loss, I'll take an angry Wisconsin squad to win big and cover even despite their early season struggles

Penn State (-5.5) vs. Navy - I'll take PSU to get their first win of the season. I think they can defend what Navy does and score just enough to cover.

Arizona State (+6.5) at Missouri - Not terribly confident in this pick, but I'm making it anyway. Yeah, Mizzou is coming off a loss. And yeah, this is a home game. But Mizzou just might be looking past ASU to next week's game at South Carolina (which is going to be VERY difficult for them IMO).

Rich

Michigan St. (-5.0) vs Notre Dame - these two teams have great potential but ND was underwhelming last week. This week they get a top tier defense in Sparty.

Tennessee (-3.0) vs Florida - Tennessee a large raucous stadium that should rattle this inconsistent (or are they consistently mediocre?) Gator squad.

LA Monroe (+16.5) vs Auburn - Monroe will be riding high after dashing the National Title hopes of Arky at home. Look for them to ride that momentum into this weekend. I'll take Monroe and the points.

Matt

Virginia Tech (-10.5) at Pittsburgh - Pittsburgh looks so bad in so many ways and Virginia Tech is the best team that they've faced to this point of the season. Not a good combination for the Panthers.

Connecticut (-3) at Maryland - Second road favorite in a row, should I make it a trifecta?

Northwestern (-3.5) vs. Boston College - Initially I was impressed with Boston College in their nine point loss to Miami to start the season. Then I saw the Hurricanes last week against Kansas State and couldn't help but question how bad Boston College must have been to lose. Northwestern, on the other hand, has gotten off to an impressive start to the season.
