The announcement Thursday night of 2013 quarterback Cody Thomas' invite to the Elite 11 finals marked yet another Oklahoma recruit asked to participate in arguably the country's top camp for high school football prospects. Former OU signees who have also taken part in the Elite 11 include current Sooners Landry Jones, Blake Bell, Kendal Thompson as well as Keith Nichol, Tommy Grady, Rhett Bomar (sorry), and Archie Bradley.
The Elite 11 finals will take place July 18-22 in Redondo Beach, California and will later air (in two parts on Aug. 7th & Aug. 14th) on ESPN. During their time in Southern California, the players will receive advanced, one-on-one instruction from guys like Trent Dilfer and noted QB guru George Whitfield among others.
Thomas' inclusion is a positive sign for a kid who has been fighting those who have questioned his commitment to football due to his prowess as a baseball player. At the time of this post, Thomas is actually participating in a baseball tournament in North Carolina that feeds to the USA under 18 national team. So Thomas will be looking to impress in California with not only his strong throwing arm, but also his overall development as a quarterback prospect.
Getting the invite was a big accomplishment for Thomas and a testament to the upside as a prospect so many see in him despite being a tad raw as a D-I quarterback prospect.
