Big XII Baseball Update (3-14-12)

via www.themaneater.com

The last week of college baseball wasn't too kind to the Oklahoma Sooners. Since our last Big XII update Oklahoma has beaten the #9 team in the nation but also has a 2-3 record with two of those losses being to Connecticut and Dallas Baptist. Oklahoma's current two-game losing streak is the longest in the conference right now as opposed to Missouri who has the longest winning streak. The Tigers have won seven in a row to improve their overall record to 9-5 and a fourth place spot in the conference.

Here's how the conference has fared over the last week.

Team Overall Record What Happened Last Week
Baylor 11-7 The Bears suffered back-to-back mid-week losses last week at TCU (9-4) and home against Michigan State (4-0). Weather shortened their weekend series against Memphis but Baylor still took two games (2-1, 7-3) before falling again to UT Arlington (5-4).
Kansas 8-7 The Jayhawks spit a mid-week series with North Dakota (W 7-4, L 12-9) and then went 2-1 in the Golden Gopher Baseball Classic by splitting with Stony Brook (L 4-0, W 3-1) and then knocking off the home team, Minnesota, 9-4.
Kansas State 10-6 The Wildcats lost a game against former Big XII foe Nebraska (9-6) last Tuesday in Lincoln and then swept four games from Hartford over the weekend (14-3, 10-2, 8-3, 13-2). Jake Brown was the Big XII's co-player of the week.
Missouri 9-5 The Tigers are the hottest team in the Big XII right now. Their week included a 14-4 win over Nebraska-Omaha last Tuesday and then a three-game sweep over Charlotte (10-5, 5-3, 3-2) over the weekend before downing North Dakota 10-7 last night.
Oklahoma 11-6 The Sooners started the week off right by sweeping Arkansas-Pine Bluff in two games (9-4, 5-4) but then went 2-2 in the Nike Showcase with wins over West Virginia (5-2) and #9 Oregon (3-2) and falling to UConn (8-7) and #22 Oregon State (11-7). Oklahoma ended the week with a 7-6 loss at Dallas Baptist. Pitchers Dillon Overton and Jonathan Gray were the conference pitcher and newcomer of the week.
Oklahoma State 10-7 The Pokes started their week with a 5-2 loss against Missouri State before sweeping Alabama A&M over the weekend (2-0, 13-2, 5-0) and then beating Arkansas-Pine Bluff 6-2 on Tuesday night. Robbie Rea was the Big XII's co-player of the week.
Texas 7-8 The Longhorns remain the only team in the Big XII with a losing record but at least they beat Dallas Baptist last Tuesday night. Their weekend series with Loyola Marymount was cut short because of weather but Texas split the two games played (L 1-0, W 3-1) before beating Texas State 6-1 last night.
Texas A&M 14-3 Still the best team in the Big XII the Aggies were 3-2 over the last week. They beat Prairie View A&M 10-1 last Tuesday and then lost their weekend series against Cal State Fullerton 2-1 (W 6-1, L 6-5, L 4-3) and then ended the week with a 10-4 win over Texas-Pan American last night.
Texas Tech 11-5 The Red Raiders had a rough weekend and then took their vengeance out on Alabama A&M last night. Their week started with an 8-4 win at Arizona State but then they were swept at TCU (2-1, 7-4) over the weekend. They pounded Alabama A&M 21-1 last night.
