OU Football Recruiting - Sooners Pick Up 2013 In-State Commitment

Booker T. Washington product, Dominique Alexander, verbally committed to Oklahoma just hours after announcing his decision to decommit from Arkansas.

Oklahoma was in desperate need of some positive news on the recruiting front and 2013 athlete Dominique Alexander was happy to provide it. Just several hours after publicly announcing his decommitment from Arkansas, Alexander become the latest member of Oklahoma's 2013 class (VIDEO).

Alexander has long been open about growing up an Oklahoma fan and despite his previous commitment to Arkansas, had never shied away from his desire to play for the team he grew up admiring. Once he received his offer from the Sooners many believed it was simply a matter of time before he pledged his allegiance to the crimson and cream. The offer took a little bit longer than he would have preferred, but Monday evening he made all those people right.

Alexander is listed as an athlete by most recruiting services mainly because he plays multiple positions, on both sides of the ball, for his high school team. Oklahoma however is recruiting him at their patented hybrid linebacker/safety spot, at least for the moment as his ultimate position will be determined by how he develops physically over the next couple years. Athletes without a true position certainly are not rare when it comes to recruiting, but when you're dealing with talent you typically take all you can get and sort out the details once they arrive on campus.

With Alexander now in the fold, it's obvious the Sooners have made a concerted effort to prevent the local talent from leaving the state. Of OU's now twelve verbal commitments, five hail from the state of Oklahoma three of which are on the defensive side of the ball, another focus in this 2013 class.

Prior to Monday's news, Oklahoma was in the midst of a significant recruiting drought however this commitment could potentially set off a bit of a windfall. Only time will tell of course whether or not that proves to be true, but regardless the Sooners have flipped a very talented in-state prospect who will now be staying close to home.

Welcome to Sooner Nation, Dominique!
