OU Women's Basketball - Sooners Cruise Over Creighton In Season Opener

The Oklahoma women's basketball team won their season opener on the road against Creighton, 69-48.

Sherri Coale and her Sooners were given the unenviable task of opening their 2012-13 campaign on the road against a decent enough Creighton squad. While it wasn't the opponent so much as opening their season, on the road, in front of an actual crowd in their first action against anyone aside from themselves, it was encouraging to see them respond after a slow start.

Oklahoma fell behind to start the game, but senior Whitney Hand sparked a 9-0 run on a three point play that would eventually earn the Sooners the lead and one in which they would never relinquish.

The Sooners were led Aaryn Ellenberg's 19 points on 8-12 shooting (3-4 from three). Hand added 14 points while pulling down an impressive eight rebounds. Junior post player Nicole Griffin, whose game has made massive strides in the offseason, tallied eight points and six rebounds.

Oklahoma returns to Norman for their home opener to host UCLA Wednesday night at 7 p.m. (CST).
