Oklahoma's Ben Habern has neck surgery
According to Carey Murdock at SoonerScoop ($), OU center Ben Habern recently had neck surgery caused from an injury that dated all the way back to his high school days. Evidently Murdock had been given the story, but sat on it out of respect to his source who didn't want the news to get out there until Oklahoma and Habern had been assured of the surgery's success. This has apparently taken place, which for OU but especially for Habern (and his family) is extremely good news.
Evidently, Habern will be in a neck brace for the next 4-6 weeks and is almost guaranteed to be held out of spring practices. But this is not expected to be career threatening and the coaches are fully anticipating him being ready to go this summer.

Best wishes and prayers for a full recovery Ben
Rumor has it that Texas is about to sign a huge corporate sponsorship deal for the Longhorn Network. They just have to decide which brand represents them best: Dyson, Eureka or Hoover.

I would almost guarantee a medical redshirt this season
by the time Ben gets back into any kind of action, he will be too weak to do what is needed. I say get him a medical hardship and work him into good shape for 2013.
In accordance with the prophecy
you could be right
But that’s not the talk that is out there at the moment per Murdock
"The less I know about other people’s affairs, the happier I am. I’m not interested in caring about people. I once worked with a guy for three years and never learned his name. Best friend I ever had. We still never talk sometimes." - Ron Swanson

Really?
Strange. You’d think that would be the logical choice.
I mean, with the kid missing all of the spring practices, there is really no way to get his strength (game strength and otherwise) back just over the summer.

Agree
And didn’t Ikard fill in pretty well at center with Habern out in the middle part of the season?

Strength & conditioning is very different than Max protection
After surgery. I would just say it depends on the actual surgery. Especially if it’s been some chronic injury since high school.
