Wow, is that gonna take some getting used to. It is going to be incredibly strange not to see BV on the sidelines next season.
I'd say orange is a good color on him, but as an OU fan I'm forbidden from ever saying such a disgusting thing. So I'll simply say you'll be missed BV and best of luck to you!

God bless the color orange sure does SUCK, I don't care who's wearing it, orange sucks
The one thing being a lot older has going for it, most of us older have seen more CFB than most younger people have seen web pages.
Maybe we can focus on the purple.
Since that isnt really such a stretch for him anyway. I ll bet if he does well the next 2 years, he lands in Manhattan…..
very good possiblity, I really figured BV would go to KST to being with, but monty does talk when it is the 1MIL range

Dunno
Word out of Manhattan is that none of those guys that left with Bob will ever be welcomed back. The word was especially Mike and Brent. All the fans like them, but there seems to be some underlying issue that will not let the return happen. Must’ve been something serious.
I've been holding this back but can't any longer
Several of the people who write articles and post comments on this site have been DEMANDING Stoops to get rid of BV and when he does y’all swoon and fret. I understand being a good sport and all but geez, give me a break. You got what you wanted.
"Are you gonna do something or just stand there and bleed?"
Well I'll fall on this sword
I don’t believe I ever called for BV to get fired, more that if he (and Bob) refused to adjust their defensive scheme/philosophy then I’d be fine with him leaving. My issue was never with BV as a position coach or recruiter, but more as a DC play caller. And even then you have to give him some level of a pass b/c he’s just running Bob Stoops’ system.
If I’m “swooning and fretting” over BV now being gone it’s for the reasons I’ve specifically mentioned on here numerous times since the announcement. The odds of us finding his equal at the two things I mentioned, a position coach and recruiter, are very slim IMO. And that is what I’m upset about.

Well, you called his game plans idiotic,
his actions stupid, and referred to having watched his “repeated failures, so many times.” As a result, when you said,
" I do not believe Venables can remain employed while the changes necessary for this program to take place can happen,"
you can see why someone might think that you were calling for him to be fired, even if you didn’t mean to be.

some of his gameplans were idiotic
Like rushing three against qbs that falter under pressure and not changing the scheme until OU was in trouble. He had some great games but I definitely wont shed a tear over his departure. It was time for some changes. He will probably do great at Clemson tho.

I have reached the position that I don't know what/who to believe
Everything I have read/heard is that Venables was on board with Mike Stoops coming back to OU – he even claimed that he encouraged Bob to bring him back … "I told Coach Stoops (bringing Mike back) would improve us, make us better … adding the dynamics of MIke Stoops’ return were in the works before the end of the season. “This happened (Clemson) obviously well after that. This was a chance of fate”
Here’s my problem: “I was compelled to be here when there was an opening.” So compelled, in fact, that Tiger’s coach Dabo Swinney said he was INITIALLY contacted by Venables on Jan. 12 – the same day Kevin Steele was fired. *Source, the Daily Oklahoman, so consider the source.
There has been speculation on this site that Clemson would never have come after Venables, nor would he have been interested, if Mike Stoops had not come back to OU.
I’m glad Venables has a job he is excited to be at, and hope he does well and becomes a head coach some day. What I resent is the COACH-SPEAK.
Team FIRST, Effort SECOND, Talent THIRD, Selfish NEVER
Pretty sure I read in a NewsOK article
A quote attributed to Dabo Swinney that said BV actually contacted him first once Clemson fired their DC. Which if true, doesn’t necessarily change how I feel about this whole situation but it would strike me as pretty odd that Venables initiated contact. Again, if true, would tell me that he never had any intention of ever coming back. I mean if he’s initiating contact w/ them first about a job opening, clearly he wanted to leave.

I'm with you there,
Why can’t they just say “I’m thinking about it”? It gets to the point that it’s become deception which in my book is the same as lying. I get it that no one wants to scare away recruits or burn bridges but this is a freaking game not a matter of national security. BV or anyone else in any field would naturally entertain offers, so I don’t know what the big deal is to not tell us that when he got off the plane. This degrading into a circus.
On a different note. If Mike Stoops defenses are more simplified to operate as has been suggested then maybe the very good athletes OU has can play ball and not be guessing and second guessing their roles. I think getting rid of Martinez and BV moving on gives OU the shake up it needed and just the right amount so that it’s not too radical and takes years to recruit to a new system.
"Are you gonna do something or just stand there and bleed?"
it also makes the rest of the staff pick up their game as well.
The one thing being a lot older has going for it, most of us older have seen more CFB than most younger people have seen web pages.
I was among those
Who wanted BV’s head and I still think that it was the right move for him to leave. I’m sure we’ll see some inconsistent defenses as we adjust, but I think we’re better off in the long run. I’m not worried at all. This is the change we asked for. When things change, worry is a natural side effect, but I think it’s a good thing and we’ll be better off for it!

Well thats a tough pill to swallow.
On another note, why does an OU site have to have ads for texass crap on the home page? We gotta do something about getting that off of there.

It is a cookie that tracks where you have been. My ads keep telling me to buy another Cadillac.
Is there something you should tell us? Strange affinity for Bevo?
Haha, just kidding pitbull!

Good Luck Brent Venables
Its over, time to get over it. 13 years is a long time to stay anywhere, and unless you are in line to be the head coach there, or you graduated from there, there is no reason for any ambitious coach to stay. He did us well during his time here. For that I am thankful. There are going to be other recruiters, other linebacker coaches that we can get. I like the idea of that guy in Arizona who doubles as a special teams coach. Or what if we simply hire a special teams coach? We know we have an upgrade at defensive backs.
I'm a Sooner Born and a Sooner Bred, and when I die I'll be a Sooner Dead!!!
It's going to be strange
Not hearing my wife say “He looks like a lizard!” at least once a game upon seeing BV on the sideline.
Good luck to you at Clemson, Brent! Hope you bring home a few ACC titles.
