Question: Did the BCS title game give OU the upper hand in the Dorial Green-Beckham sweepstakes?
I won't even lie, that Bama defense looked flat out scary, and even LSU's defense looked better than any other defense (excluding Bama) that I saw this season. I know DGB had to be glued to his television watching those two defenses that he will potentially face next year, if he goes to Arkansas. Obviously if Bama is still on his short list, they may have gained the most leverage.
All indications are that Green-Beckham has pretty much narrowed his decision down to OU and Arkansas... that's what I've read. If that is true, going to Arkansas would mean that he has to play both of those defenses every year as well as some other pretty good defenses (i.e. South Carolina and Georgia). With Green-Beckham obviously being a future NFL prospect, there is two sides to this argument:
1. Go to Arkansas and show the NFL scouts that he can be productive in the most respected conference, playing against the nation's best defenses. But going this route he stands a chance of having some really bad games and possibly even a bad season. And to no fault of his abilities either... the elite SEC defenses just find a way to make average QBs look awful. And if the QB can't get him the ball, he looks bad.
2. Come to OU and pretty much become unstoppable. I don't think there is any doubt that this kid would start immediately if he came to OU. I think he also has a chance to shatter all of Broyles' records, as sad as that would make me. This kid has unbelievable size and ability. And dominating the Big 12 surely is something that the pro scouts will respect. But the uncertainty at QB (after the 2012 season) might be an issue for him as well.
We are about 20 days away from all speculation being put to rest. I just wanted to have some fun before the big announcement. Curious to know your thoughts. And of course I hope he goes with option 2 :)

DGB won't break Broyles' records if
he’s only around 3 yrs at OU, which I imagine his max would be.
The kid has tremendous talent but in the Army all-star game he did drop two easy balls, one a potential second TD. I’m surprised he garnered an award for that game compared to what Miles, the QB from Colorado heading to the UW, did.
Meanwhile, both Jonathan Gray (RB) and Malcom Brown (DT) look like real deals. Texas is fortunate to get both.
I agree...
He would defintely have to do 4 full years to even sniff Broyles’ records. Yeah Texas… ugh!

they will find a way to stink it up again.
01.13.12 @ 7:26pm and texass still sucks
The one thing being a lot older has going for it, most of us older have seen more CFB than most younger people have seen web pages.
hmmmm idk. I would think that bottom line will come down to ethics & family like experience
OVER what defense he might face.
agreed...
I responded to you below. I keep messing this reply thing up. Lol!

I hope so...
because I think OU would certainly compete with any school in those two catergories. I have also heard that he grew up an OU fan, that always helps.

Id be surprised
if he goes to OU… All the talk in Springfield is that Arkansas is the school. The Landry Jones return may actually play into our favor. Also considering he hasnt taken a official visit to Norman and kind of stood em up a few weeks ago has to be concerning. Guess we will know on Feb 1st….
Not saying you're wrong
But Arky fans can find people who think he’s leaning towards him. OU fans can find people who swear he’s leaning towards them. Texas fans can find anoymous morons who have their own websites who swear he’s leaning towards them.
I’ll say it for the 1,000,000th time. This family doesn’t talk to anyone about what they’re doing/thinking. Any speculation as to what school they might be leaning towards is just that, pure speculation.
He could very well end up at Arky and if you put a gun to my head right now that’s where I’d say he does wind up. But the talk about “he’s doing this” or “he’s leaning this way” is just soooooooo old at this point. Talk to me when he or his father confirms a top three which they may or may not do before signing day. Otherwise, talk to me on signing day because only then will we know anything definitively.

Very true...
It is all talk until signing day…. especially considering that he hasn’t even given a verbal

It can even be all talk past signing day
There’s no reason a guy has to commit that early if he hasn’t made a final decision yet.

Pro scouts are interested in TALENT not stats
He needs to pick a school where HE is comfortable, will work hard, learn to improve, be coachable, and mature in to a man.
Also, not picking or disagreeing, but can you give some sourses you read that say he is down to OU and Arky?
I respectfully disagree...
If stats were not a factor, there is no way Justin Blackmon would be projected as the 9th overall pick. That projection is based on the success of his college career, not what he was projected to do coming out of highschool.
As for the source for DGB chosing Arky or OU… sorry, I don’t have a reliable one, it is only rumors.

Alshon Jeffery vs. Justin Blackmon....
to me this is a good example of taking stats over talent. My opinion is that Alshon is the most talented of the two, but Justin is projected to go higher because of stats. Now if Alshon had a QB as good as Weeden and played against Big12 defenses, his stats might have looked more impressive.

LJ's return is liable to play way more in our favor
than anything that happened in the NC game. It may not make a difference, but I’m sure he’s aware who set all those records for receiving and who was the passer at the time.
That sounds about right....
It may have been a stretch to suggest that seeing those two esplosive defenses even played a factor in his minnd, but you never know what the kid is thinking.
But knowing that he will play with Landry for a season definitely should help us. Landry came back with a purpose of winning a national championship and the kid is probably well aware of that.

what if Arky's Qb goes pro?
He still hasn’t made an announcement yet. This could work in our favor couldn’t it? IF he goes pro who’s gonna throw to him there that can hold a candle to Landry?

it's certainly possible
But at the same time, nothing is changing that DGB would still only have one year to play w/ Landry. So does that one year sway him over say Arky or Texas? Who can really say?
Agreed--the 2012 QB isn't likely to change things significantly
Plus, with only one exception I can remember (when Thompson had to switch back for Bomar), OU always has a solid succession scheme at QB. I don’t think he has to be worried about whether he will have someone capable of delivering the ball if he chooses OU, and the same probably goes for any team Bobby Petrino coaches. Pinkel too, to a lesser extent. Much to my dismay, that does not happen to be a point of consistency for Texas.

Agreed that he has only one year with Landry, but
I think guys like him figure they’ll be tearing thru the record books their freshman season, if given the chance. Plus, he’s gotta like the scheme. And, if he was watching closely he would notice that in a brief appearance where he had a few throws, Drew Allen looked great, and if, on the other hand, Bell turns out to be able to pass well enough to beat out Allen for the spot, then he will be great as well. However, as you point out, who can really say? Some of these kids have been praised so much up to this point that they figure anywhere they go will automatically become the best team in the country…
This is breaking news....
I’m happy for him finishing his school, but I’m not happy as an OU fan because he is good.. but at least we know now.

saw that earlier as well.
hopefully the backups we have are more enticing than the backups at arky

But that's only for a single season
If he banks on making his career his freshman season, that’s one thing, but Jones isn’t going to be there in 2013 unless he misses 2012 and gets a sixth season, and at this point, DGB would be more likely to be a complementary receiver to Stills and Reynolds, much like Broyles was to Iglesias, Johnson, and Gresham.

Sure, maybe
But you’re selling that as a negative, or at least it reads as if you are. And as a Horn, I’d expect nothing less but a smart WR would realize having other threats around you only increases your own effectiveness. I believe DGB is that smart WR.
Sure you guys can sell him being your primary target, but that’s as much by default as it is his own talent level. The fact that the only other WR you have on campus, Shipley, to draw attention away from him isn’t a selling point. It guarantees he’ll face double coverage on basically every play. It also ignores the fact that he’d have to rely on Ash/McCoy/Brewer throwing him the ball, which in and of itself is (or at least should be) a massive strike against UT.
Nah, you know me, jte
I say things as objectively as I can, rather than spinning it for UT or anyone else. I didn’t intend to sell it as a negative, but rather to point out that DGB isn’t likely to see Jones’ return for 2012 as some huge positive, because the important years for him will be 2013 and 2014. I was also trying to use Broyles’ freshman year as an illustration of the type of role I’d expect DGB to have. If he’s realistic, he won’t expect to hang his hat on 2012 and use the QB that year as the deciding factor, because he’ll probably be playing a complementary role.
Really, I think Texas has a lot to offer, but is far behind the other three schools in terms of established systems in which DGB could thrive. I hope that changes, obviously.

ive read about everything there is on DGB
anybody know any good articles that might be hidden in the interwebs?
I swear my allegiance to the crimson and cream, and lay down my effort to honor this team. The bell always awnsered, Ill fight through the pain and lift up my brother! To honor this game! I stand in the shadows of champions past and guard every inch of this hallowed grass. I train to remember although i may bleed. We live by the code, of the crimson and cream. Theres only one Oklahoma.
I think this boy is heading somewhere....
out in left field. Someone that no one even knows is in the running like Ohio State maybe.
I'm a Sooner Born and a Sooner Bred, and when I die I'll be a Sooner Dead!!!
Doubtful IMO
Alabama would have been my guess for that kind of team, but many believe that is just too far away from his family. I’ll be very surprised if it isn’t one of OU, Arky, Mizzou, or Texas.
