I am guilty as charged and continually reminded by a good friend of mine to temper my bias toward all things Sooner
I took this as good advice (for once) and lowered my expectations for OU in this Pick’em contest. Whereas I had OU at a confidence level of 35, I adjusted them down (with a guilty and heavy heart and in the dead of night when no one was looking) to a mere 30.
Not to my surprise, I noticed that I wasn’t the only one following such guidance. However, I was astonished at the degree to which some of this site’s faithful have committed to this line of thinking. Especially against a terribly mediocre Iowa team that lost to Minnesota and when Vegas had OU as a the biggest favorite of the bowl games. Redhawk and pitbull17 slotted OU in at #15 (I checked the math, That’s in the lower 45% of 35). chuckb had OU at #7. And jtesooner posted OU at a dismal, pitiful 1 !!!!! What the HELL is going on !!!!!!
I do not think this reflects well on our ability as a group to objectively consider the realities of Sooner football. We’re too high on the good things and far too critical on the bad things that affect the OU football team. Especially considering that around 100 of the variables in this situation are young men between the ages of 17 and 22.
We can do better

I made my feelings on our chances going into the game
Very clear. I didn’t think we’d come out ready to play and fortunately I was proven to be wrong. I mean it could have been worse to be fair, I could have picked Iowa.
I can’t speak for the other guys, but I’d strongly disagree w/ your statement that where I placed them in this (sorry CC) meaningless pick em contest being any kind of indication as to my ability to provide objective analysis regarding OU football. In fact, I’d argue that having them where I did only adds to my credibility. A pure sunshine pumper, IMO, would have put OU at 35 while ignoring the obvious and significant issues this team was dealing with heading into this game. I take a great deal of pride in the fact that I, and I believe the other guys here as well, can call things as we seem them. Both good and bad. I don’t think any of us here have been short in our praise of this program when they deserve it and likewise just as quick to criticize when we feel they deserve it as well.
I’d agree that we can always do better, but I’d like to think we do a pretty damn good job here.
And I would contend that we tend to up-play OU’s weaknesses and down-play or disregard the opponents weaknesses. That is not being objective. Given the apparent state of Iowa’s team this year, it was not sensible to expect them to beat OU.

Again, I don't agree at all
But obviously you’re welcome to your opinion and I respect that. If you think the coverage here is so unobjective (or whatever word you want to use) then fortunately you have the ability to contribute via the FanShot/FanPost sections and I’d encourage you to do so.
