Call me catty:

The aggies look & sound like idiots on the pregame. Programs ready for the SEC DO NOT play on Sunday. This is ridiculous.

Yes, I am tired & probably grumpy from yesterday.

No doubt

If SMU scores here then it could be panic time in Aggieville

by ccmachine on Sep 4, 2011 7:44 PM CDT up reply actions

I think there is cause for concern

Legitimate concern. This is a back up QB.

by OU JJ on Sep 4, 2011 7:49 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

Over 100 yard rushing by a pony RB.

In a little over a quarter. And they are a pass first offense. OUCH.
I sense some cramps coming on.

Definitely not impressed

If SMU wasn’t beating itself, you’d have to think this game would be a lot closer.

by soonergal5 on Sep 4, 2011 8:47 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

The back QB has missed some wide open throws...

and maybe if the kicker kicked the onside kick more than 3 yards that would’ve helped too

I'm still...

I’m still shocked A&M fans seem to be so gung ho about the SEC. They are going to be a bottom dweller. They think they are magically going to start winning recruiting wars and tearing up the SEC? Just going off historical program success, they are behind, in no particular order, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, and arguably Arkansas and maybe South Carolina. Congrats A&M, you’re on par with Ole Miss (they have a better program than you historically, but are irrelevant now), Miss State (although Dan Mullen can coach), Vanderbilt, and Kentucky. Morons.

I imagine he will be even better in a couple weeks. He was certainly trying too hard, but overall, I thought he played very, very well. Was it an A+ performance? No. But it was no worse than B+. And Corey Nelson played well. He didn’t have his name called a lot, but I can’t think of one play where I said “Corey Nelson was out of position.” I still think Demontre Hurst is way, way underrated.

I think one of the best things to come out of this game, believe it or not, was that OU won without injuries and Tulsa had some big plays. Hear me out on this… had OU shut Tulsa out and played to perfection, I think a few of the guys would get complacent and the coaches might have a hard time motivating them. It’s hard to go two weeks and really bust your ass when you play perfect or close to it. But the coaches have plenty of film to show them for positive reinforcement, but they also have enough film to show them that there is still plenty of room for improvement.

by SoonerSunDevil on Sep 4, 2011 9:57 PM CDT reply actions

i may be able to buy into that if this wasn't the first game

and if they weren’t heading to play FSU, which is a top 5 team. I don’t think these kids are gonna lose focus that easy

I think them being ranked #1 last season for 7 days is actually a big help this season. They appreciate how fragile the ranking is and how hard you have to work to keep that ranking.

by SoonerSunDevil on Sep 4, 2011 10:05 PM CDT up reply actions

agreed

No way in the world is OU not prepared for the FSU game. Not sure if the down week help or hinders you towards game prep. FSU played a very vanilla O game (just as OU did) against the warhawks and will probably do the same in week 2 so scouting tape is going to be a bit hard to decipher. Its going to be an interesting game and will definately have NC implications for OU.

by Talonkarde on Sep 6, 2011 9:59 AM CDT up reply actions

In the end, the Tulsa offense was completely shut down.

I think they had 72 yards at half time. No complaints.

by OU JJ on Sep 4, 2011 9:58 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

They had a total of 400 yards and 4.2 yards per carry. That concerns me. A&M can run. If they are going to beat us, it’ll be through the ground unless our boys can play a little better against the run.

He’s a very average player to me. Like R.J. Washington, he shows a flash of promise every now and then, but they are both 5 star recruits playing like 2 or 3 star recruits.

by SoonerSunDevil on Sep 4, 2011 10:00 PM CDT up reply actions

JTE,

I completely agree with your assessment regarding Kameel Jackson. He looked great catching that single pass. He basically had to scoop a ball that was 6 inches off the ground and then he showed some speed and toughness to pick up 18 yards. It’s obviously only one play, but he did, in fact, look smooth.

Honestly don't know who called the plays at Boise and

I think its obvious Peterson is the brain’s behind Boise, seeing as how they stayed on top after Hawkins left for Colorado, but why would that make him not an attractive hire. He has learned from a great and innovative HC and has been in charge of some great offenses, even if he’s not calling the plays. It seems beyond possible for you to have a reasonable conversation with a Texas fan.

Sorry not directed at you, but JJ.

Don’t know why it matters how long it takes Mack Brown to hire his staff? And don’t know where the basis for Harsin doing very little at BSU comes from?

Do not be distracted by what you see, but be transformed by what you believe.

by 2Cor12:9 on Sep 4, 2011 10:35 PM CDT up reply actions

cause the offense is Petersons

I don’t think harsin is a bad oc, i think he may be a little over his head with what texas wants him to pull off, atleast for the forseable future. tell me that another 5-7 will be ok with ut

"I feel sorry for peple who don't drink, when they wake up in the morning thats as good as they are gonna feel all day long." Frank Sinatra

by pitbull17 on Sep 4, 2011 10:43 PM CDT up reply actions

Okay so what the offense is Petersons.

He came to Texas after learning from a great offensive mind. Sounds an awful lot like Josh Heupel and his resume under Kevin Wilson. Neither one of us know who was calling the plays at Boise and for arguments sake lets assume it was Peterson. But that doesn’t change the fact that Harsin was involved in game planning each week and learning the intricacies of an innovative offense. Was it a gamble by Brown? Yes, but isn’t each hire made by a head coach.

Uh, no, 5-7 will not be okay with UT.

Do not be distracted by what you see, but be transformed by what you believe.

by 2Cor12:9 on Sep 4, 2011 10:49 PM CDT up reply actions

Because he was oc in title only.

He actually was responsible for very little as an oc, compared to your typical oc.

by OU JJ on Sep 4, 2011 10:50 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

Because he was throwing staff under the bus and potential coaches

Weren’t knocking on texass door begging for jobs. Which is how Mack & Delisa think it should be. The fact that people didn’t want to come to texass made it a long process to fill all those open positions. That’s not unreasonable, that’s calling a spade a spade.

by OU JJ on Sep 4, 2011 10:49 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

No that's not unreasonable, but what is, is how you conveniently change people's name.

That’s why I said it’s beyond possible to have a reasonable conversation with you.

Guilty of smack (he does like to spin it)

And I confess to being held hostage in this state. And hating it, hence texass. But I feel that way even aside from UT.

by OU JJ on Sep 4, 2011 11:02 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

At the time I was wringing my hands along with the rest of the orangebloods

but I have to say I am pleased with all of the hires. I think they are all upgrades over the previous coaches except for Diaz. Hard to upgrade over Muschamp. There is a reason he’s an HC at a top flight school like Florida.

Don’t think Mack calling his coaches out after the ISU debacle had anything to do with the time length for finding new coaches. Mack is very well liked within the coaching circles.

Something about Jefferson back there just worries me

Nobody is more aggressive than he is, so if Harris is biting on that stuff I worry that TJ will do the same. I’m really liking the Lynn idea, mucho credit to Texas for that idea.

by Jordan Esco on Sep 4, 2011 10:13 PM CDT reply actions

I think you’re underestimating TJ’s football IQ. He’s also extremely coachable. And, in his defense, I thought a lot of the risk and aggressive moves he made last year were reasonably well calculated. In other words, yes, he’s aggressive, but I don’t think he’s reckless.

Watched the Horns. Watched the Sooners. Watched the Aggies. Texas, well, we’re not so good yet. Got potential, but that don’t get ya much. A&M, keep drinking the koolaid ya mixed for yourself. Hope they enjoy the middle of the pack, because that’s where they will be, for a long time. I’m thinking I have to watch OU win another Big XII championship. Broyles is an animal and I think Landry is one of the best you’ve ever had, which is saying a lot. Just do me a favor and put about 60 on A&M. Keep it close against Texas, I’m begging you.

Offensively, Texass’ biggest problem is a the QB, the OL, and lots of potential, but no great WRs. The running back problems are well documented. Maybe Malcolm Brown is the answer. Maybe not. Who knows after one game?

Teams with average QBs but with stellar OL and a running game can win a lot of games with a top 5 defense. Texass doesn’t have that. I don’t know that you guys will go 5-7 again (I hope you go worse), but I don’t think you guys are winning 10+ this season.
