Friday Locks: Disagreement On Baylor And TCU
With the college football season underway so is the second annual Crimson And Cream Machine Pick'em contest sponsored by Sooner Legends Inn And Suites. One of the weekly features we're adding this season is our locks. Let it be noted that these are for entertainment purposes only and if you decide to wager based off of our picks (especially in today's economy) all of the smarts have left your body.

| Mizzou - (-20.5) vs Miami Ohio | I think Pinkel and Dave Yost keep things simple for their new QB (James Franklin) in the opener, a lot of short passes and designed QB runs. Franklinperforms well, but where I see this being a "lock" is on the opposite of the ball for the Tigers. Mizzou's defense this year is legit and I think they easily keep Miami (OH) under wraps and make this an easy cover for Mizzou. | Indiana - (-6) vs. Ball State | A little love for K-Dub and IU. I think both teams put up some points and throw the ball all over the place. I expect Wilson to have his team jacked up for a game on an NFL field and quite frankly I just don't have much belief in future OU sacrifical lamb Ball State. At less than a TD to cover, give me the Hoosiers and a Kevin Wilson spread offense | |||||

| Maryland (-3.0) vs Miami FL | Maryland looks to have a much improved QB in Danny O'Brien who will enter into his second year of commanding the offense. While losing 3 WR is usually detrimental, Maryland has a solid group to replace them in Edsall's system. Miami has had a ton of off-the-field problems that resulted in some late suspensions changing the outcome of this game drastically. Maryland should be able to cover the spread no problem, not to mention it is a home game for them. | TCU (-4.5) vs Baylor | I'm picking against the spread this time around. While TCU is coming in ranked they are losing 12 starters (6 from both sides of the ball). However, the biggest loss was Andy Dalton. The Horned Frogs will not have the same punishing defense they had last season and will not be able to compete with Baylor offensively. Robert Griffin III is the difference maker this year. Baylor will not have the defense to get a stop almost every time but they only need one stop in this game. The offense should be able to score at will allowing a Baylor victory. | |||||

| TCU (-4.5) vs Baylor | There's a lot of focus on what TCU has lost going into this game but, in my opinion, not enough focus on what Baylor has lost. The Bears return Robert Griffin and a defense that has a tradition of being bad. RG3 and the offense has been able to carry the team but with the departure of Jay Finley and Josh Gordon I'm not convinced Griffin has much, if anything, to work with. TCU wins by at least a TD. | Texas ( -24) vs Rice | I'm not convinced that the Longhorns can score 24 total points much less beat an opponent by that much. I'll take Rice and the points until proven otherwise. |

I like Michigan -13.5 against Western Michigan. I have to believe that the Michigan defense has to be improved under new coach Brady Hoke. You know that Denard Robinson is going to put up some points as he did at the begining of last year. Western Michigan does have a very good QB but the men protecting him have very few D1 starts among them. They will be starting 3 JUCO transfers and possibly a true freshman. That is not going to cut it in the Big House.
I'm not sure
With the change in offense they’re making, I’d worry that D-Rob is not quite as explosive as he was last year.

My picks in those games
Mizzou fails to cover the spread vs Miami (O) but wins, Maryland covers the spread as they beat Miami, TCU wallops Baylor to easily cover the spread (14 points win, at least), Indiana covers the spread and stomps Ball State, and Texas will fail to cover the spread vs Rice but win the game.
Really?
Mizzou is probably the one I feel strongest about.

MIami O was actually halfway decent last year
MAC champs. They return a whole bunch of starters, and should be a bit better than last year. I expect Mizzou to not be as good on offense simply because they lost their QB. Granted Mizzou beat Miami by 38 last year, but Pinkel’s teams often struggle in their first game, plus breaking in a new QB, plus Miami O improvement tells me that Missouri prob won’t cover the spread. It wouldn’t surprise me if I were wrong, just trying to explain why I feel Mizzou won’t cover.

A wild shootout on the Brazos.
A little surprised that 30 points were scored in the 1st quarter and now already 14 more in the 2nd.

that baylor lock is looking better all the time
I wouldn’t have made it a lock but halfway through the game it’s looking like a good pick
