Austin Box To Be Remembered Throughout The 2011 Season
This is something that Jordan and I discussed as a possibility on Sooner Nation Sunday night and Travis Lewis has confirmed that it will happen. According to a statement made by Lewis on ESPN's "Training Days with the Oklahoma Sooners" that aired Tuesday night, a different player will wear a #12 jersey throughout the season in memory of Austin Box.
I think that this will be both a touching tribute and an honoring gesture towards Box who would have been the starting middle linebacker with this season being his senior year. Now it begs the question as to whether quarterback Landry Jones will keep his #12 jersey this season or not?

Great stuff.
Best to you and AB’s family.
I have nothing to ask but that you would remove to the other side, that you may not, by intercepting the sunshine, take from me what you cannot give.
Excellent idea
Love it. Will be a great way to keep his memory alive as well as an inspiration to the whole team.

Love this decision
Going to be so cool every week to see who gets #12.

Who's first?
Just wondering who do we think will get the first nod on wearing #12.

Tough call
I’ll go with Tom Wort though.

My pick
would be Landry Jones…..and then in the 2nd game and going forward, Jones wears what ever number he changes to.
Sorry Sooner Charger
You didn’t do anything wrong for me to delete your comment, but out of respect to Austin and his family we’ve decided not to bring any attention here on CCM to Tillman’s incredibly insensitive comments.
Hope you and everyone understand. Thanks!

Has anyone ever done this before? I’ve seen the player’s jersey number in black on team jerseys. Or an armband. But this seems new. It’s a great move. It’s hard not to feel a pang when Austin’s name comes up. This is a classy way to remember him and I can imagine his family must be grateful.

Mizzou did it a couple years ago when they lost a player in the offseason
Loved it then, love it now.

Yeah, what Mizzou did worked out really, really well.
It’s a wonderful move, and I’m glad OU’s doing it.
