Enough Already, Give The Job To Terry Evans

Give the job to Terry Evans. Image via NewsOK.com

I've had it up to here with this coaching search. I'm sick of these coaching candidates jerking us around to get a bigger contract or an extension where they're at right now.

We have one guy who has voiced an interest in the job, and he just happens to be an OU alum - Terry Evans. I was a little apprehensive at first because I don't think there's a vast history of coaches making successful jumps immediately from Division II to Division I. But you know what? The man wants the job, he has a vision, and he would be proud to be associated with OU.

Apparently Evans has interviewed with OU already, and it was a three hour interview so it wasn't just for show.

Discuss.

Really? Who else is left?

I’d still like to take a shot at Smart but there arent very many candidates left out there to choose from.

If all these other guys are shooting us down

Smart probably will too. Plus, he hasn’t proven much in the regular season and thus you’re going to be paying a premium for two nice postseason runs.

Terry Evans would at least be cheap and be a Sooner at heart.

embarrassing

Even if none of the names we have heard were really being considered By Joe C. it is still embarrassing…perception is reality and lets face it…the rest of the country has been hearing these rumors too…I would personally take Terry Evans over Shaka Smart. I just think he has a passion for OU and he knows this area and what the fans expect…I also like that he said he would bring an up tempo style here….if we are going to lose I would rather lose 90-88 than 52-50…it’s okay when you are winning those types of games (sampson era) but it is brutal to watch when you are losing those games

Evans has my vote.

Do you know where you're at and who I am?

Missouri, Utah, and NC State are also having issues finding a coach.

BUT..

yeah, I’m sick of it.

Give to Evans….screw it lets move on

I have to ask

Who is this Scott Sutton people are talking about? Is he kin to Eddie Sutton?

by jbb10 on Mar 31, 2011 5:34 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

Are you serious? I'll assume you are.

Scott sutton is the current ORU coach, son of Eddie sutton, brother of Sean sutton. Which I believe automatically disqualifies him from employment with OU.

The Jump

Bo Ryan at Wisconsin made the jump from Div. 3 to Div. 1 and he’s done pretty well for himself. Bruce Pearl also jumped from Div. 2 to Div. 1 and he did okay too, until the NCAA busted him. Back in the day Nolan Richarson made the jump from junior college to Tulsa and then to Arkansas. It might be the road less traveled, but it doesn’t mean you can’t have success either. Everyone has to start somewhere.

thing is no university can afford to hire a winning coach from D1

Most are going to have to come from the DII level but Terry Evans is interested and will be interested so why not look at Marshall and Smart first?

Kinda sad isn't it?

When it comes to football we are one of the premiere programs in the country, but with basketball we are reduced to begging at street corners with our hat out. I agree – give it Evans who actually wants it; Sooner pride can’t endure to many public rejections.

OU in basketball...

seems like Duke in football.

Yup, give the damn thing to Evans. I’m sick and tired of being jerked around and hvaing other d-bag coaches play games with us to screw their own schools into giving them more. If we’re going to have a crappy basketball program, we damn well better have a crappy program with a coach with has passion, fire, and a desire to get us back to being a premier program.

OK.... so I said it a few nights ago.... THe JOKERS (incl Weber) who were left arent going to beat Kansas or Texas, & will probably "settle" for home wins. PATHETIC

Its a scenario where OU needs to hire Tubby with Evans as recruiter/asst/HCIW…what the heck ever. If not just give it to Terry Evans…..

by OU JJ on Mar 31, 2011 6:57 PM CDT reply actions

Seriously & I mean TUBBY smith, not Billy-ball....

Kruger, Pearl, Weber etc arent going to be the big boys & the rest of them wont beat A&M, Baylor or (((((SHUDDER)))))) OSU on the road…. if Joe C wanted this, then keep Capel….

by OU JJ on Mar 31, 2011 6:58 PM CDT up reply actions

Apparently

Joe C is using a search firm, Kevin Harlan (does play by play for Big 12) was asked yesterday about the OU coaching situation on an afternoon radio talk show here in KC. He said OU among quite a few other schools are using them for their coaching vacancies. Search firms all the rage according to him. If your coach isn’t listed with the firm, chances aren’t good you will get him. Don’t understand it all, but money drives it. Bad year to need a coach, if Mike Andersen can command 2.4 million for being at best mediocre at MU, yikes.

That seems like a mistake

why put the decision making partly in the hands of someone not affiliated with OU?

I was still a little too young

To remember Terry Evans as a basketball player at OU. I see that he is one of OU’s all time leading 3 point shooters. I was against him being hired at first, but I am starting to come around. He has built a super power at OCU. I know that it isn’t D1 but last I checked it was still the game of basketball. His record at OCU is off the charts good. The difference between OCU and OU would be bigger, faster, stronger players with bigger egos. If he can keep the management side of that in check and deal with the attention and media, then I say give the man a shot. He is screaming at the top of his lungs to get this job and THAT is what I want from my SOONERS head coach.

at the other big 12-2 school…not at OU I’m sure you mean. I’m not sure our men’s team could be the women’s team this year.

You get my point! Ya, next season is gonna be scary no matter who the coach might be.

Lets SOONER up

Come on now, yes this is tough to take, we are spoiled, we are Sooners but lets not get all freaked out here. First, lets remember whom we are and let our great top notch athletic department work this out. second, have faith in the Sooner system which has brought us decades of greatness as a body of work. Sometimes there are mountains to climb but we can and will reach the top. What doesnt kill us will make us stronger. third, No matter who is chosen the future is an unknown, in that there are no guarantees in any one hire that we can realistically bring in. so the true need here is to be supportive and to rock it out come next winter! just trust in our great Sooner Nation where our future always looks bright.
