EPSN Propaganda And The Heisman Hoax

A historic trophy that has become a prestigious club all its own. Not only has the Heisman become something every player would love to lay hands on, it has also built quite a reputation in recent years. Through scandal after scandal the award continues to be handed out to the best player on the best team in college football.

Andrew Luck has been the name thrown around all season long. He has been heavily favored to bring the hardware home to the Stanford Cardinal since his surprising runner-up Heisman performance to edge LaMichael James in 2010. While many still object to the fact that Cam Newton won the award in a land slide, there is nothing we can do about it now. However, there is one issue still to be resolved. Who should win the Heisman Hoax Race this year?

Let's take a look at sheer numbers from two names being considered for the Heisman:

Candidate #1

2011 SEASON
PASSING
RAT YDS TD INT CMP%
191.1 3678 34 5 72.6
RUSHING
YDS TD YPC
612 7 4.1

Candidate #2

2011 SEASON
PASSING
RAT YDS TD INT CMP%
167.5 3170 35 9 70.0
RUSHING
YDS TD YPC
153 2 3.6

For the most part, any quarterback would be more than happy to be putting up the numbers posted by both candidates. Yet, by simply looking at the numbers we could easily say that Candidate #1 has had the better year across the board minus a single stat...TD passes. If you really wanted to, the rushing touchdowns could be combined with the passing touchdowns giving Candidate #1 the edge by 4 total. But if you were to guess who Candidate #2 was, you would likely not believe it was your Media Favorite Andrew Luck. While Luck has had a great year he is not quite the play maker that Candidate #1 is. But it comes down to a simple issue. Who are the major sports networks willing to campaign for?

It is apparent that the media is not pushing Candidate #1, also known as Robert Griffin III, down your throat. Rather they are taking their preseason choice, after all no one wants to be wrong. In an attempt to break this mindset of the best player on the best team winning the award, can we actually look at who has been great all season long regardless of wins and losses? That probably won't ever happen, but hey...I tried!
