Dorial Green-Beckham HS Career Over: Now To Pick A University
Dorial Green-Beckham has been no secret in the world of football recruiting. Not only has he gained recognition as the best receiver in the nation coming out of high school since Randy Moss, he has been said to be Randy Moss, A.J. Green, and Julio Jones wrapped up into one. DGB has all the skills and size necessary to be a very productive receiver on the collegiate level and now that his high school career has been ended in a blow out loss, the only thing left to focus on is where he will attend school come next fall.
DGB could literally start as a true freshman at any school in the country. With that said, it will matter very little who the prospective school has already obtained verbal commitments from. Up until this point the entire Beckham family has been very secretive while analyzing every option. Early this month DGB released his top four schools: Arkansas, Auburn, Oklahoma, and Texas in alphabetical order according to Doug Segrest of The Birmingham News.
A few recruits will be watching the Texas Longhorns take on the Kansas St. Wildcats in Austin today and you can bet that Dorial Green-Beckham will be there. However, you would have to think he is favoring a team that is not afraid to throw the ball downfield. Does Texas fit this mold or will he lean toward another Big XII team?

I thought he said his top two were Arkansas and OU?
by SoonerSunDevil on Nov 19, 2011 12:39 AM CST reply actions
Those have been rumored to be his top 2
But I can’t find a reliable source or a source outside of a blog to confirm that
There was an article on espn quoting this.
It’s behind a moneywall, but it’s said in the free part.
I guess Tempe will have to work.

That's what many believe
But that never came from the family. OU is in as good a position as they could hope for. Compared to the others he is rumored to be considering, OU is clearly the best for his CFB career and NFL development but if you follow recruiting even casually you know that guarantees nothing. Norvell and Heupel have earned our trust when it comes to landing big time recruits, so I’ll put my faith in them ahead of just about anyone.

?
why would DGB be better off at OU as compared to arkansas? apparently OU is going to have a Tebow type at qb the next few years. why go that route when you can play for a high octane offense with top level qb’s and other good receivers to draw attention, and play in the SEC and play your home state team (mizzou)? if he goes to oklahoma its only cuz they payed him a truckload.
Does anybody
Know any sites with good info about DGB?
I swear my allegiance to the crimson and cream, and lay down my effort to honor this team. The bell always awnsered, Ill fight through the pain and lift up my brother! To honor this game! There really isn't one to be honest
He and his family just don’t do interviews, so just about anything out there is speculation as to what he “might” do.

DGB visiting texass only helps us
It’s likely to be an ugly game and what’s infinitely more ugly is the crap sandwich that UT trots out there at QB every week. I know texass fan believes that no one in the universe can compare to what they offer and for once they might actually be right. Nobody has a worse collection of QBs than they do and DGB and his family are more than intelligent enough to recognize this. Calling UT’s pass offense abysmal is an insult to the word. Why in the hell would he want to go there and ruh-tard his development?
texass is no real threat IMO

Not sure where you’re hearing that Texas fans believe that their two qbs are the best in college football. They are already calling for Bryan harsin’s head after the mizzou game.

It wasn't a reference to Texas QBs specifically
I was referring to the “total package” Texas has to offer

Their historic hysterics
the attitude they have always had. “Texass Good!”
Rumor has it that Texas is about to sign a huge corporate sponsorship deal for the Longhorn Network. They just have to decide which brand represents them best: Dyson, Eureka or Hoover.

I’m frankly surprised that he isn’t considering Missouri. From everything you read, proximity to his home is an important consideration for him, so that his parents, to whom he is extremely close, can see his home games. The three major football programs closest to his home are Arkansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma in that order. I’ve always thought that his final decision was going to be a combo of style of the offense (i.e., one that emphasizes passing over running) and distance.
I don’t really think Texas or Auburn are likely destinations. I think the order of probability are: Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, and Auburn. But I think there is a huge drop off in probability between OU and UT. His family has commitments on Fridays and can’t leave until Saturday morning. You can’t get to either Austin or Auburn in that amount of time.
My gut tells me that Arkansas is almost certainly his destination. It has a pure pro style offense guided by one of the best offensive head coaches in the US, one in which WRs thrive. It is far and away the closest to his home in physical distance. And he has visited Fayetteville on multiple occasions, and loves the town. I honestly believe his mind is already made up to go to Arkansas and that visiting the other schools is more about assuring that it is the right program for him than anything else. That said, I do think that OU is the only other school where he might go. I’d say the odds are substantial that he will go to Arkansas, that they are nonexistent that he’ll go to Texas or Auburn, and that it is unlikely but possible he’d go to Oklahoma.
Just to toss in two other things, OU is twice the distance from Springfield, MO than Fayetteville. (304 miles versus 148 – speaking of which, I wonder why OU and Arkansas have never played each other regularly – OSU and Arkansas play fairly often, but I wonder why no Sooners versus Hogs.) And I think there is pretty close to universal agreement that the SEC is the most competitive conference in the US. I mean, consider this. If Arkansas wins big against Miss. St. today they could move up a slot in the rankings to #5. They are still the THIRD highest ranked team in the western division of the SEC, with LSU and Alabama first and second. You could argue that he would rack up better stats in the Big Twelve, but he’d get better competition in the SEC.
I’d rank the odds 2-1 he goes to Arkansas, 8-1 he goes to Oklahoma, 25-1 Texas, and 50-1 Auburn.
The problem with Arkansas is Bobby Petrino. That guy sleeps with snakes and would JUMP at the first opportunity for a better job. Arkansas isn’t an elite job in college football, only about 10 schools, including OU, can say that. Petrino may not be at Arkansas in another year or two. Stoops will be at OU for another 7 or 8 years at the very least.
Petrino has a questionable background and Stoops will be at OU until he retires. I don’t know why DGB would go to Arkansas over OU. Makes no sense.
by SoonerSunDevil on Nov 19, 2011 1:49 PM CST up reply actions
I find that a bizarre statement.
First off, everyone says that Petrino is happy at Arkansas and feels it is his destination school after having tried other options. He hated the pros wanted to get back to a college situation. He has very quickly built Arkansas into a very good school.
Petrino is, in fact, one of the major factors for DGB to go to Arkansas. He is indisputably one of the great offensive coaches in football. Even his most ardent detractors acknowledge that. Arkansas being #3 right now is not a fluke. With his approach the team is going to be a consistent Top Ten team. They are going to be a legitimate contender for the national championship next year, with most of their players coming back.
Also, Arkansas is going to be a very good team next year. It isn’t clear Landry, if he comes back, is going to be a better QB than Tyler Wilson. Some scouts are saying that with another year of polishing Wilson could be the first QB taken in the 2013 NFL draft. Petrino redshirted most of his 2011 recruits, so that Arkansas will get a wave of freshmen with a year’s practice behind them, going into a team that is losing few key players apart from . . . wide receiver. DGB follows Arkansas closely and knows all this.
I don’t know why DGB would go OU instead of Arkansas. THAT would make no sense.
Osu does not play Arkie regularly ....
Tulsa does but not osu

If he wants consistency its OU
If he wants a winner it’s OU.
It’s not like it’s a far drive for the family.

Not 100% on board with the better competition aspect
Oklahoma has one of the best CB duos in the nation. DGB can’t get into “competition” with a defense if the SEC offense isn’t willing to throw downfield to him. This is just a hunch but DGB wants to score TDs not settle into a routine of seeing the FG Team take the field.

Whens the last time the hogs got the number one player in the nation? obvious its not high on many recruits list. If your going to the SEC most kids dont wanna end up in Arkansas. But on the flip side Jay Norvell has been on DGB for a while and i know he feels comfortable with our coaching staff.

QB situation
I think DBG sees that he’ll be playing with the Heisman favorite next year in Landry if Landry comes back, and if not he’ll be playing for the next three years with Blake Bell. I don’t know what Arkansas’ QB situation looks like, but I imagine it isn’t better than OU’s.
by SoonerSunDevil on Nov 19, 2011 3:24 PM CST up reply actions
I really don’t think you follow college football outside of oklahoma if you think Arkansas’ QB situation is worse than OU’s……… First off, I take Tyler Wilson ANY day over Landry Jones (SEC vs. BIG 12 opponents). Second, our backups (2nd and 3rd string) are both fantastic and have been tearing up practice. Brandon Mitchell and Brandon Allen (#8 pro-style QB out of high school, number 1 accuracy) will be more than adequate to fill in for Wilson when he goes pro. Oklahoma isn’t on the same page as Arkansas when it comes to offense and quarterbacks, mainly due to BIG 12 comp versus SEC comp.
Make all the case you want about Arkansas...
I like our chance.
I guess Tempe will have to work.

Joe Parker
Just like DGB, Adrain Peterson was a 5star blue-chipper & Rivals100 #1 prospect. He committed to OU and how many NC or BCS bowls did the Sooners win???? Lol exactly. Auburn will be losing their OC to a HC vacancy while Arkansas & Oklahoma will be rebuilding next year. Mean while Texas will be bringing in a #1 recruiting class & gearing up for a potential 3-4yr title run. If location is a major concern lol y’all know Texas has the resources to accommodate.

a 3-4 year title run?
This is the most laughably idiotic post I’ve ever read here.
Texas is close to becoming an also-ran in the conference. For the 2nd year in a row, they’re a middle of the pack team at best and, with their QBs, there’s not a whole lot of upside. You can talk about your TV network and your facilities but this garbage about a 3-4 year title run is so absurd, it’s laughable. Concentrate on getting to 8-9 wins, then think about winning the conference, and then think about “titles.” UT’s probably 3-4 years away from competing for the Big XII title.
You havent been paying attention. UT isnt “3-4 years away from competing for the Big 12 title”- qb play is bad, but other than that there’s a lot of upside. Best D in the Big 12 while being the youngest team in the country… I dont think youve been paying attention. Offense has potential and with juco linemen and some solid recruiting, every position but the QB should be good, maybe not great everywhere but good. And qb is still up in the air- sometimes kids just “click” and get it… time will tell. Meanwhile, OU, OSU, and Baylor are losing playmakers. It’s funny to hear Sooners talking about this when after this postseason they’ll be struggling with a new qb as well. Things didnt go as planned with Gilbert and that set us back a year or 2, but stop counting your chickens because this team will be lighting it up in the next year or 2. I’m not really sure who could even stop us next year if we get solid qb play. OU with a new qb? OSU with a new qb? Baylor with a new qb? K State may be legit again… you havent been paying attention. Not saying we’re there yet but I think we have as good a shot as anyone next year. For about a third of the season we had 59% of our offensive production sitting out with injuries. Get your shots in now because when we get solid qb play under a Harsin system, you know how things will look. Unless youve been watching football like a Sooner which is understandable. You havent been paying attention…
DGB to hogs
When it comes down to it… this is ALL that matters to DGB:
1.) Proximity to home = Fayetteville dominates this category
2.) Passing offense = sorry boutcha, Arkansas once again reigns superior to OU, Texas, or Auburn in this category as well
3.) Coaching = Bobby P. With his recent contract, there is literally no chance he will leave within the next 7 years. And, he knows how to get his receivers the ball better than any other coach DGB is considering.
OSU
He should go to OSU with Urban Meyer… better coach then petrino any day
