falling in the polls

i'm a huge sooner fan, but that doesn't make me ignorant to whats going on. if ou's defense doesn't shape up, they have no chance to get to the championship game, much less win it. the offense will not be able to move the ball on either alabama or lsu. so to beat either, the sooners will have to pull off a near shutout. clemson, right now, would put 40 on them. wisconsin might never go to third down. boise would have a field day against the nap times harris or procter take during the game. right now its academic. its improbable that, playing with just colvin alert at safety, ou gets thru the conference schedule. baylor will torture the secondary. silo tech will be worse than baylor. tex a@m has lost twice, but have put up a lot of points against both silo tech and arkansas. texass is improved from last year, when they almost won the ou game. k state beat miami and baylor plus we all know that bill snyder understands how to stifle the sooners' offense. t tech is putting up numbers. really, only kansas and iowa st seem to be secure wins. even iowa st is less a certainty than normal. this week ou will fall behind alabama in the ap poll. it won't be long before wisconsin over takes them. and stanford and clemson? and rightly so. would any of these teams allow ball state to control the clock for the entire first quarter?  plus jones is going to keep throwing interceptions. he has 6 already, so that extra year of experience doesn't seem to have mattered. winning the national championship is out of the door. the defense is just not at the level of lsu or alabama. the offense hasn't played to the level of clemsom or stanford. ou is good, but not national championship good. a more realistic goal is being able to go into the silo tech game with a chance to win the big 12, with one or two losses.  even if ou beats texass, the computers will give ou a beating when the first bcs poll comes out. i predict alabama, lsu, wisconsin, clemson, and maybe boise will be ahead of ou if they are all undefeated. of course lsu and alabama play, so one has to lose. but the other probably wins out. wisconsin looks good to win out. so even undefeated, ou is probably out of the hunt. and playing without any deep coverage help from the free safetys, undefeated is not going to happen.
